And he was hers.
They took their time cleaning up and he took her again in the showers. But instead of heading back up to his office, he took hold of her hand and led her to the house then upstairs to their bedroom.
“There’s something I haven’t done yet,” he told her as they walked into the bedroom.
Her heart caught in her throat as he moved into the wardrobe and came back with two boxes, one on top of the other. One was large and thin, the other was a small ring box.
He kept the ring box, handing her the bigger box. She set it down on the bed and lifted the lid. She gasped as she saw the beautiful dress inside. It was dark blue. She pulled it out. It was fitted at the top, then the skirt flared out.
“I thought you might like something special to wear to the restaurant opening.”
“I love it. Thank you.”
He kissed her gently. “You have worked so hard to get it up and running. I’m proud of you and very grateful.”
She blinked back tears then gasped as he dropped to one knee in front of her. “I know I’ve already told you that I’m marrying you. But I never got a chance to get you a ring.” He opened the jewelry box, revealing a single-cut, solitaire diamond ring. It was simple and elegant and perfect.
“Aspen Lane, will you marry me?”
She let out a laugh. “Just you try to stop me.”
He grinned. “Now why would I do a silly thing like that?”
