“Sheriff is coming up the drive,” Tanner yelled into the family room where they were all squished in watching a movie.
Apparently tonight was family movie night. She wasn’t sure if it was something they’d come up with for the boys or if they did this every week, but she kind of loved how much these guys did together. Even if they were all flipping nuts.
Mia had made buckets of popcorn with lots of different toppings, Flick had dragged in extra pillows and blankets. Now they were all sprawled out on the floor sofa and chairs, watching an action film.
Until Tanner’s phone had buzzed and he’d gotten up to check on something.
Jardin and Carrick shared a look. She gazed over at them. Did they know why the sheriff was visiting? Were they leaving her out of something? She hadn’t left the house at all today. Neither had Flick or Mia. She thought it was probably a precaution in case whoever was watching her was still around. She just hoped she wasn’t putting anyone on the ranch in danger by staying here.
Jardin stood and reached out a hand to her, pulling her up. Carrick stood along with Alec and West.
“Keep watching,” Alec said. “We’ll be back soon. West, go grab Jake and bring him into my office.”
She let Jardin lead her into the office, looking behind to ensure Carrick was following. He sent her a reassuring smile.
Jardin settled her onto the sofa and both men flanked her, each holding a hand.
Alec sat behind his desk and West leaned on the wall behind him.
“Come right in here, sheriff,” Tanner said, leading the way into the office.
She’d only seen the sheriff in passing. But he was a handsome man, tall with dark hair. He gave Tanner an exasperated look.
“Thanks, Tanner,” was all he said.
Tanner walked out, shutting the door behind him.
“You found him?” Alec asked.
