“I’m almost done.” She scrubbed the shirt. The water was still coming out red. It was then that I noticed in the mirror's reflection that she had a red broken heart tattoo in the middle of her chest.

“What happened? Whose blood is that?” I swallowed, my throat suddenly dry. While I could go long stretches of time without feeding, I was still a—vampire. I leaned against the door and focused on the floor. I couldn’t look at her, standing there in only a bra and panties covered in blood. It was too tempting.

“No one of consequence.” She rang the shirt out, threw it on the floor, then bent down and grabbed the shorts.

“Seems like a waste. Do you not know how to eat your food without playing in it?” I smirked. I snuck a glance. She was focused on getting her clothes clean.

“I wasn’t feeding. I was attacked.”

I straightened, kicking off the door. “What? By who?” I demanded.

“I told you. It doesn’t matter.”

She finished with her clothes and began cleaning the blood from her arms, her face, and then finally, her legs. She turned, standing with her arms at her sides, staring at me.

I diverted my eyes. While her body was beautiful, it wasn’t mine to be looking at.

“Do you need clothes?” I asked, licking my dry lips.

“Do you have anything?”

Without hesitation, I took the vest off and removed my t-shirt to reveal the white undershirt beneath. I handed it to her, and she pulled it on quickly. “This’ll work.” She started toward the door. I blinked and shook my head, incredulously.

“I can see your—I don’t think—” I stumbled on my words. Her black boyshort panties were playing peek-a-boo under my t-shirt. She could not go out like that.

“I’ll stay at the ticket booth. The counter is high enough that no one will see it.” She urged me aside and reached for the handle.

“What about the Wonder twins?” I asked, grabbing her forearm to stop her. We both froze as my fingers felt…wet. We looked down at my hand, which I slowly removed to find the source. There were visible teeth marks, and she was still bleeding.

“That wasyourblood?” My voice was low.

“Yes. Now I need to get something to drink. Can you let me go, please?” She pleaded. I stepped away.

I followed her out to the break room, where she went to the fridge and chugged a half-gallon of blood straight from the jug. Droplets slipped down her throat in three thin, dark lines. Despite knowing she was in pain, I wanted desperately to clean her up with my tongue. I had to look away. I went to the first aid box and pulled out some medical tape and gauze.

“Let’s clean it up some,” I muttered.

“Why?” she asked, having drained the container, and tossed it in the trash. “It’ll be healed by morning.”

“Because it’s still bleeding. You’re walking out there with no pants. Add in a bite? There’s going to be questions.”

“Fine.” She sighed and plopped down in a chair to let me cover the mark. I looked at it and tilted my head in curiosity. Who had bitten her? It was a perfect set of human teeth. No fangs.

I worked in silence, and only when I was done did I open my mouth to ask questions. I was interrupted by Adam coming in to find me.

“Desi! Oh, and Scout. Cool. Another wave is starting. We need help out here.”

My eyes caught Scout’s, and she nodded. We stood as he disappeared back into the lobby. I let her go first. I flushed slightly when she stopped short and turned her head, catching me in the act of looking at her upper thighs. She shook her head and took a deep breath.

“Don’t tell Arsenio about what you saw in there. The blood.” She clarified. I nodded, and we returned to work.

We hardly talked the rest of the shift, as we were hit with people all night wanting to watch movies. When we did catch each other’s eyes, she’d smile, causing me to do it back. Then, when we’d look away, dark thoughts would plague me.

What exactly happened, and why wasn’t her boyfriend allowed to know?

“I have something for you.”
