“Oh, you don’t want to know what I was thinking then.” I bit my lip to stop from grinning.

“Oh, Scout, no. I do.” He stopped at the middle of my desk, put both hands on the surface, and looked me dead in the eyes. My heart stopped beating. “Tell me exactly what you thought when I shoved you against that wall and shoved my tongue into your mouth.”

My heart, regaining sense, began beating furiously to catch up. My breathing became ragged as he stared into my soul. I swallowed and parted my lips a fraction.

There were no words.

When I refused to look away or answer him, he stood up straight. He pushed my feet off my desk and walked around it. I started to get up, but he slapped his hands down on my wrists and tightened his grip keeping me in place.

I looked up, and when our eyes locked, he leaned forward and smashed his lips to mine. I closed my eyes, and as his tongue reached out past his fangs, my lips parted to let him in. My mouth moved with his as he clenched his hands tighter around my wrists. I wiggled, wanting to touch him, but he refused to let me go.

He gently bit down on my lip and tugged it slightly as he pulled away. His fangs scraped against my tender skin, pricking it enough to make me gasp and lick the tiny wound when he stood back up. He released my hands and looked down at me, eyes blazing. “Am I still—adorable?”

I gulped and opened my mouth to speak. Just then, there was a knock on the door, and both of us pulled back from each other, returning to reality.

“Yeah?” I called.

Adam opened the door and popped his head in. He glanced between us and raised his eyebrows. “Uh, Arsenio’s on his way in.”

Desi instantly stepped away, and a moment later, Arsenio appeared behind Adam. He flashed me a small smile, and I cringed. I looked at Desi. He had his hands in his pockets and was looking at the ground.

“May I come in?” Arsenio asked when Adam disappeared. My stomach was in knots, but unsure of what to do, I answered.

“Sure. Yeah, what’s up?”

He saw Desi standing near my desk and nodded to him. “Hey. It’s good you’re here. I actually wanted to talk to both of you about containing things.”

Desi looked up and shook his head. His eyes had darkened, and his jaw was locked.

“Nah, I’m not in the mood for this bullshit.” He didn’t even glance at me as he stalked out and left through the front. After Arsenio left, I discovered Desi had left work completely.

The DnD twins called off tonight. Considering they’d been here for a year and hadn’t missed a single night, it was hard to be super pissed. It just meant that I’d actually have to do more than sit in my office bullshitting with Desi all day.

Not that it was probably even an option tonight. After he had stormed out when Arsenio came, I hadn’t heard from him since. I wasn’t even sure if he’d show up tonight. But much to my surprise, right on the hour, he sauntered in without looking at the counter and went to clock in. It took him a solid five minutes before he came back out with a cocked head.

“Why are you out here?” He looked at me as if I were wearing a clown’s costume.

“You want to put on a vest and help out tonight? The guys called in.”

“Both?” He frowned. I nodded. He turned back and returned with his vest. “Where do you want me?”

A few places came to mind, but they were all very NSFW. That second kiss last night still had me feeling things. Very bad things. I pointed down toward the screenings.

“Go be an usher tonight.”

We stood there for a moment, staring at each other. I looked away first, and he started off toward the screenings.

Thankfully, tonight was a slow night. I was mostly refilling popcorn and sitting around for the next showing. It was two hours into the shift when I got a ping from my phone. I pulled it out to see it was a text from Desi.

Desi: This shit sucks

I smiled and typed back quickly.

Me: Oh, Sloth, how I missed you so.

Desi: I don’t like you very much.
