I rattled off the complex name and general neighborhood.
Scout: I know some people there. Those are nice apartments.
Me: You should come check it out.
As soon as I sent it, I flinched. Was that too forward? We hadn’t really talked about what we did in the break room past me telling her not to mention it to Arsenio. She put her clothes back on and went back to work. I sat in my office trying to figure out how to fix things, eventually opting to run away.
Me: We can pretend that never happened. If you prefer.
I offered her an out. She wasn’t the first woman that was a one-time situation. As a rule, my relationships never lasted long anyway. It was kind of hard to develop feelings for someone when you knew the curse you were under would fuck it all up. I didn’t get to fall in love.
Scout: Do you want to forget it?
Me: No. In fact, I’m thinking about it right now.
I grinned down at my screen like an idiot. I could almost see her squirming in her desk chair. The memory of how soaking wet she was in my hand got me instantly hard. She had been so tight. So wet. So. Fucking. Hot.
Scout: Nice try. I’m not up for games tonight.
Me: What are you up for? I can tell you what I’m up for.
Scout: Goodnight, Loser. Come back to work. It sucks here.
Me: Later, Nerd. Don’t eat my candy.
Scout: too late.
A moment later, she sent a selfie. She was grinning, with one of my red candies in between her red lips.Jesus Christ.
The memory of those lips and how she worked her mouth caused me to sink further into the bed. I closed my eyes and reached for my dick. I was a fucking rock.
She had been careful with her fangs, but they still grazed me as she sucked me off. I swore she was writing words in cursive with her tongue. I couldn’t wait to get back to work and do it again.

“That guy you killed. Basil. His friends want to talk now.” Arsenio told me over the phone. “I think you scared them into talking.”
“I didn’t mean to kill him. He was a piece of shit, sure. But I had every intention of letting him live. Minus the finger.” I leaned back in my chair, resting my legs on the top of the desk.
“I think you’re more eager to break your curse than you let on.” He laughed, but I didn’t. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
“Anyway, I had visitors a little over an hour ago. Two vampire women, one Bloodborn and one Bloodshed. They claim to be the ones Ludovica went with.”
I flew up in my chair, my legs falling to the floor. “And? Is she safe? What the hell is going on?”
“They say she’s fine. In fact, we spoke via video chat. We were right. She was just being… Elvie.”
I rolled my eyes and took a deep breath. Something about this whole thing didn’t feel right. It felt too easy. “And you trust these two?”
“I don’t see any reason not to.”
“Arsenio,” I sighed. “Elvie is involved in shady shit these days. We don’t know these people. You were there. That Bloodshed died because he didn’t want to give up anything, and now all of a sudden, they show up on your doorstep? I—”
“I’ve got someone trailing them. Calm down!” He interrupted me. I snapped my mouth shut. He cleared his throat. “I told them not to leave town. They are staying at a blood hotel.”
“Fine. I want to meet them.”
He didn’t like me not trusting his judgment. I could almost hear the heat coming from his ears. He growled low into the phone. “Fine. Tomorrow then.” He hung up quickly.
