“I love it when you draw me.” He leaned forward and folded his arms on my desk. He rested his head on them and watched me draw with half hooded eyes.
“You’re a good muse,” I said, happily working on his hair. I loved how it flopped in front of his face.
“I’m bored. This place sucks.” He groaned and repeated the words he’d said just about every day since he started here.
“I know. You’ll get through it.” I assured him. “We should go check on them.”
“Why? They spent two weeks training. I think they can handle popcorn and a broom.”
“That’s not what I’m worried about,” I muttered. While I had relaxed some and gotten used to their presence, I still wasn’t entirely confident they wouldn’t rob the place and run.
I set my pad and pencil down and frowned. “Come on, Loser.”
He sighed loudly and stood, following me out. I heard him pull the sunglasses out of his pocket and slip them on.
He squeezed my ass on the way out. I jumped.
“What’s this?” he asked.
“What do you mean?” I scowled at him as I adjusted my skirt.
“You’re wearing underwear.”
I rolled my eyes and left the back to find Una and Aleida. Thankfully, their first day without Adam and Dylan was a slow one. They’d be able to ease themselves in.
Una waved to me from down the hall, where she was sweeping popcorn into the trash near a theater. I went to the counter, Desi in tow, to see how Aleida was doing.
“Hey, guys! What’s up?” She smiled. Her attention was more on Desi, but I didn’t point it out.
“Just checking in to see how you’re doing.” I smiled back.
“Good except for the guy’s bathrooms. I guess there’s a stall that’s clogged.” She looked pointedly at Desi. “Desiderio, would you be a doll?”
“Didn’t I tell you not to ask me for anything?” He sighed, but I nudged him in the ribs with my elbow. “Fine. Do we even have stuff for that?”
“Yes. In the closet right in between both bathrooms. Here’s the key.”
“You owe me.” He waved a finger at me. I rolled my eyes. I hated how he continued to wear the glasses around the girls. It was as if he knew something he wasn’t telling me, and it made me trust them even less.
“Sure. I’ll give you some time off.” I crossed my arms and nodded to the bathrooms.
“Go, Loser.”
He turned and stalked down the hall to unclog the toilet. I looked back at Aleida and opted to join her on the other side of the counter and help. A group had just come in. They got their snacks and tickets quickly and were gone in five minutes. Desi still hadn’t reappeared.
I relaxed against the counter and gave Aleida a friendly smile.
“You two are so adorable.” She laughed.
I raised my eyebrows. “Who? Me and Desi?”
She nodded. “How long have you two known each other?”
“Only a few months. He’s cool.”
“He is. And hot.” She added. She looked at me expectantly. I swallowed a lump in my throat. Was she testing me? She was friends with Arsenio. She could very well run and tell him anything she found suspicious.
“He is attractive,” I said reluctantly.
