“Yeah, of course.” I grinned; thankful he hadn’t come here for a date. “I’ll come back in a little bit.” On my way to the kitchen, I was fighting back the urge to squeal, but it came out the moment the kitchen door swung closed.

“Oh my God!” Jennifer plowed through me from behind. “Scout, that guy was staring at you the entire time you were walking back here.” She sighed. “Why do all the good ones want everyone but me?”

“What makes you think he’s a good one?” I crossed my arms, trying not to smile wide. He was staring at me? Is it possible he came back just to talk to me?

“Did you see his car outside?”

I shook my head.

“He’s got a brand-spanking-new black Mustang.”

“That doesn’t make him good. Just rich.” I reached for the coffee cup I had set aside earlier and brought it to my lips.

“Isn’t that the same thing? Anyways, he asked me if you were seeing someone the other night.”

I choked on my drink, and coffee spilled all over my shirt and chin. “What did you say?”
