DESI
“I don’t wantto talk about that.” My mood shifted, and I could feel the heat in my cheeks. I took a sip of my beer.
“Why not?” Aleida stepped back and threw her hands up. “It’s exciting! I didn’t kill until after I turned, but hey, what does it even matter?” She spun around and laughed.
She hopped around my kitchen in her heels and the tight mini-dress. Just weeks ago, I’d have bent her over the kitchen table and shoved her panties down to bury myself deep inside of her. Now, my cock didn’t even twitch.
“Seriously, it’s no big deal. I’m hurt you didn’t tell me.” She turned back to me and pouted.
“There isn’t anything to tell.” I shrugged. “A guy needed a favor.”
That guy being myself.
“Who?” She demanded.
The more lies I put out into the world, the harder it’d be to remember them. There was no harm in her knowing. “Philippe Greco.”
“That’s weird. Why would he come to you for a favor?”
I finished off my beer and set it in the sink. I grabbed another one from the fridge and then started out of the room. In the living room, I pulled a slim, wooden box from under the couch.
“I probably wasn’t his first choice.” I opened the box and pulled out a pre-rolled joint. I took the lighter from my pants pocket and lit it quickly. I sat back and reached for my remote.
“I wonder why Gianni didn’t take the job.” She came to sit beside me. Her hand went to my thigh, and I jerked away almost instantly. “Don’t tell me you’re jealous of your brother.”
I took a hit of my joint and offered it to her. She stuck out her tongue.
“I have no real feelings for Gianni, jealous or otherwise.”
“I bet you’ll be more bloodthirsty than him or any of your family.”
Was that meant to be a compliment?
“It was just a job. Nothing more.”
“Job!” She laughed and tried to slide her hand along the inside of my thigh again. I moved away while in the middle of another hit of my joint. I blew the smoke in her face, which I knew would get her to move. “Ugh! You jerk!”
It wasn’t cool, but I didn’t like her touch. Not anymore.
She shifted away. I turned my TV on and began aimlessly scrolling. I found a rerun ofQuantum Leapand settled on that. I wasn’t a huge fan, but it was a distraction.
“So, if you’re taking on those kinds of jobs now, does that mean you’ll stop with that?” She pointed to the weed.
“I’m not taking those jobs. It was a one-time thing. And I’m considering quitting altogether,” I said, taking a bigger hit, and coughing afterward.
“You? Giving up weed? That would be a dream. I’d be more impressed if you hadn’t just gotten high.”
“It relaxes me.” I snuffed out the joint in my ashtray.
“I know other ways to relax you,” she purred and leaned in again.
“I’m not in the mood.” I put my hand up.
“How?” Her seductive kitten tone instantly changed to a sharp and pissed-off tiger. “You can’t go that long without me.”
“I did before I met you,” I pointed out.
“Are you feeling guilty for killing him or something? Sweetie, it’s perfectly natural for us.” She ran a finger down my face. “In fact, it’s kind of sexy for you to be diving into death before you’ve turned.”
