“So are you going to do it?” Ricki asked.

Blythe and Dapper looked at each other. Their smiles were huge.

“If we win,” Blythe said.

“Yeah, it’d be nice if we could show affection in public.”

Blythe punched her in the shoulder. “Yeah, this doesn’t quite cut it.”

When Blythe and Dapper started dating, Ricki was surprised, but Abby wasn’t. She’d been predicting it for months. Blythe had always been attracted to more feminine women, so Ricki hadn’t considered the pairing. At first, it had taken Blythe by surprise, too, but it worked. Blythe finally found someone who stuck more than a month or two. Ricki sensed it would be a match that endured.

“We better get inside,” Blythe said.

“Go win an award.” Ricki smiled, and a lump caught in her throat. “I love you, you idiot.”

“Oh, Jesus.” Blythe blotted at her cheek. “You’re going to mess up my makeup.”

“You don’t wear makeup,” Ricki said.

“Oh, yeah.” Blythe grinned. “I love you both, too.”

“You’re nervous,” Abby said.

Ricki considered denying it. Instead, she said, “How did you know?”

“Your hand is a block of ice.”

Ricki shifted on the couch where they’d been streaming the Golden Thumb Creator Awards. Blythe and Dapper’s category was up soon.

“Damn tells.” Ricki squeezed Abby’s hand. “I want her to win so bad. It’s great to see her dreams coming true.”

“How about yours?” A seductive smile played on Abby’s lips.

Ricki pulled Abby closer, and their lips met. Abby’s kisses still sent an electric jolt through Ricki’s body.

Ricki pulled back. “We can’t do this. If we miss Blythe’s award, she’ll never forgive us.”

Abby chuckled. “Rain check?”

“Definitely. And to answer your question, my dreams have all come true, and you’re the center of it.”

“Good answer.” Abby rested her head against Ricki’s shoulder. “I don’t think we can ever have kids.”

“That was random. Why do you say that?”

“Imagine our kids asking when we fell in love.” Abby chuckled. “Well, honey, it was when we had a threesome with your Auntie Blythe.”

Ricki laughed. She loved how much Abby’s sense of humor had blossomed now that she was less self-conscious. “Geez. Just tell them you fell in love when you saw my bookshelves.”

“Hmm, okay, so we lie to our children. Got it.”

“Besides, you fell in love with me way before that.” It was a running dialogue between them. The more Ricki pushed Abby to admit it, the more Abby’s mischievous nature came out.

“What can I say?” Abby grinned. “I’m in it for the sex. Always have been.”

Ricki laughed. “You’re just trying to distract me from being nervous.”

“Is it working?” Abby held up Ricki’s hand that she’d been holding. “Never mind, it is. Your hand is nice and warm.”
