After several minutes, Blythe stepped back. Her eyes were unfocused, but her cocky smile was in place. “Wow. I never want to hear how you’re a shy little librarian again.”

Abby laughed and stepped toward Blythe.

“Oh, no.” Blythe backed up. “If we keep that up, I won’t be able to keep my promise to take this slow.”

Would that be such an awful thing?Abby didn’t have the nerve to say it aloud since she’d used up all her courage asking for a kiss. Still, her body ached for more. Two years was too long, and the wetness between her legs proved it.

Abby surveyed the bedroom, looking for an exit from the situation. She considered excusing herself to go to the bathroom, but she didn’t trust that she could fight her urge to touch herself if she did.

“How about we crawl into bed?” Blythe said. Abby’s pulse raced. “And we can read through and answer the comments on our posts.”

“Uh, sure. Sounds like fun.”

Abby must have kept the disappointment from her voice since Blythe smiled and said, “Why don’t I pop us some popcorn?”

When Blythe returned with the microwave popcorn, Abby was in bed with pillows propped up behind her. She looked up from her phone and smiled.

“Finding anything interesting?” Blythe asked. “How many likes are we up to on our original post?”

Abby shrugged. “I don’t know.”

“Then what are you doing?” Blythe handed the bowl of popcorn to Abby before she crawled into bed beside her.

“I’m in an online book club, so I was just checking the updates. We read a chapter a day and discuss it.”

“Uh-oh.” Blythe settled in beside Abby and took the bowl back from her. “I’m causing you to get behind on your reading.”

Abby leaned toward Blythe, so their shoulders were touching. “I read ahead since I didn’t think I’d have time this weekend.”

Blythe let out a fake gasp. “You rebel. Is that allowed?”

“Shh.” Abby put her finger against her lips. “Don’t tell anyone.”

“I don’t know,” Blythe teased. “I’m not sure it’s ethical to keep such a big secret.”

Abby picked a piece of popcorn out of the bowl and tossed it backward toward Blythe. Blythe tried to catch it in her mouth, but the throw was much too low and bounced off Blythe’s chest. As Blythe was reaching for it, Abby snatched it up and popped it into her mouth.

“Unethical and stealing my popcorn. How the mighty librarian has fallen.”

“What can I say? I have a bad girl side to me.” Abby dropped her phone onto the bed and scooped up a handful of popcorn.

“Good to know.” Blythe picked up her own phone from the nightstand. “Are you ready to see how your hair is trending?”

Abby groaned. “I don’t get the fascination with my hair.”

“Really?” Blythe’s eyes widened. “You look gorgeous with it down.”

Compliments always made Abby uncomfortable, so she reached up and messed up her hair. “How’s this?”

Blythe laughed. “Even better.” Blythe held up her phone and leaned toward Abby, so their heads touched. “We should get a selfie.”

“In bed?” Abby’s voice rose.

“Why not?” Blythe nudged Abby with her shoulder.

“People will…well, they might…I mean, they could get the wrong impression.”

“Let them.” Blythe put her arm around Abby and smiled at the camera.
