“I never deserved you.” Alexander’s words have me turning from my masterpiece to find his eyes trained on me. “I don’t even deserve my sons and Melanie. But I want them, and I’ll fight for them no matter what.”
Well, shit. I guess he does love someone other than himself. For that, I feel a slither of respect for him. Just a slither.
“Good. You can start by letting the twins know that. And for fuck’s sake, take me out of your will. I don’t want anything from you, Alex. The day you die, the only thing I’ll be doing is celebrating.”
He nods as if he’s accepted that fact already.
“We have to go in case the cops randomly show up,” I remind my cousin, and he nods.
“I’ll take Alexander to the warehouse to wash properly and make sure he has his story straight before he comes back here to find his wife has been killed by the Crimson Angel.”
“Thanks,” I offer Barrett a slight smile as my mind flicks back to all of my other worries. Asher being one of them. “We also need to find Asher. I haven’t heard from him since last night and… and I need to tell him I’m sorry in person. Perhaps beg him to take me back.”
“What?” Alex frowns. “Asher? You’re kidding, right?”
“I’m still pointing a gun at you, Alex. Watch how you speak to my cousin,” Barrett remarks, and I grin.
I fucking love my cousin.
And I fucking love Asher Scott. I reallyneedto tell him. And after that, I really need to find the person who put a hit out on me and finish them once and for all.
CHAPTER 41
ASHER
My entire body is on fire. I’m pretty sure I have a broken rib, and I’d be lucky if I don’t have internal bleeding right now.
“Maybe she doesn’t love you.” The chuckle from Stuart MacKenzie grates on my nerves.
I’m going to kill this fucker.
“Not even his mother loves him,” Monty, my mum’s fucking boyfriend, scoffs, and I decide when I get free, I’m going to kill him first.
“Maybe you’ll die before she even realises you’ve been taken,” Julian MacKenzie adds his thoughts before they all laugh.
Fuckers.
I’m going to enjoy killing each one of them.
Glancing around the space past my swelling eye, I recognise the familiar interior of a warehouse and the Black Taipans symbol painted on the far tin wall. And above that, the words ‘The Vista’ are painted.
Looks like I’ve been dragged into gang bullshit.
Great.
“I want to be the one to kill him,” Monty, the piece of shit, whines like a little slag, and Stuart tuts.
“That depends on his Angel.”
They all hum in agreement before Stuart lurches forward, his fist swinging back before slogging me in the gut. Hard.
The wind flies from me, and I gasp for air before I start coughing, some blood spitting up.
Damn. That can’t be good.
I don’t want to die yet. Not until I’ve killed these fuckers and anyone else who’s after my woman. I’ll burn this whole fucking city to the ground before I let that happen, and I don’t care who I take with it, as long as my Angel is safe.
Another fist comes out of nowhere before pain explodes in the side of my head, and as I tumble into darkness, all I can picture is my beautiful Lily.
