“We’re going to Connecticut,” March discloses.
“Connecticut? What’s in Conn– Fuck you, no,” Fallon realizes.
“It’s the only place Ronan won’t look for us. We’ll be safe. Besides, it’s only for one night,” March tries to reason.
“I am not going back there,” Fallon erupts.
“You don’t have a choice. I already spoke to Ling. She knows we’re coming.”
“Who else knows?”
“No one. And your parents are out of town for the weekend. So you won’t have to deal with them.”
“Farrah?” Fallon asks meekly.
“She’ll be there,” March confirms.
“March, this isn’t a good idea. I can’t go back there.” I turn to look at Fallon again, this time with surprise. She’s holding her stomach with the most intense expression of pain.
“You’re not alone this time, Poppy. He can’t hurt you.”
“I’m not afraid of him hurting me.” She keeps her head down and tucks her hair timidly behind her ears. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen Fallon look like less than Wonder Woman. She’s always has this strength about her. It just swirls around like a forceful wind. But now . . .?
“I saw him.”
“When?” March and I ask in tandem.
“That day at the hotel when you came to find me. He’s one of Ronan’s new business associates.”
“What did he say?” March is grossly intrigued.
“A bunch of disgusting bullshit.” She sugarcoats nothing.
“Wanna make him second on our hitlist?” I ask in all seriousness. I’ll have no problems taking Fallon’s father out.
“He’s been number one on my hitlist for a long time. I just can’t do that to Farrah. Not yet. Despite my upbringing, she’s happy.”
“And you are hugely responsible for that,” March reminds her.
“I’ll get my revenge,” she promises darkly. “When the time is right.” Now, there is the woman I know and love. “I did threaten him.” Fallon laughs diabolically, much like Harley Quinn. “You should have seen his face. I wish I could have captured it in bronze. I would display it on my mantel.”
“Twisted,” March jives. “And I love it.”
“Savage is definitely sexy,” I agree.
“I’m glad you think so.” Fallon scoots forward so her face is close to mine. “’Cause as soon as I can get you alone, I’m going to show you just how savage I can be.” Her threat makes my scalp line tingle in an equally alluring and alarming sort of way.
“Can’t wait.” I grin awkwardly, mentally preparing myself for the ass-kicking of the century. Hopefully followed by the makeup fuck of the century.
March shoots me a clandestine look that conveys “Boy, you gone and done it now.”
Which I totally have. I know I’m in a world of shit with both Ronan and Fallon, but I don't care. I don’t regret any of it. I’d do it again without a second thought. I am done with Ronan taking things from me. Taking advantage of me. Thinking he owns me like a goddamn slave. Thinking he owns everyone and everything.
Tonight, I taught him he doesn’t.
Payback feels fucking good.
Even if it only lasts a minute.
