I huffed out a laugh but didn’t deny it. I was pretty sure Finn did fancy me. What I wasn’t convinced of was whether he wanted to pursue a relationship with me, despite what he’d said last night. I wanted to talk to him, see exactly where we stood. “Maybe.”
“I know he likes you. But if there’s something holding him back, it’s got to be a good reason. Finn’s a good guy, he doesn’t play games.”
I sighed. He wasn’t saying anything I didn’t already know. “It’s like Christian said, the fact that I’m paying him to stay here seems to be an issue.”
Cole shrugged. “I kind of get it. You’re not entering into it on the same footing if he’s your landlord. I mean, imagine if you had an argument? You can’t exactly storm off home, and it’s his house, so...”
“You think he’d kick me out?”
Cole shook his head, quickly. “No, I don’t. But you can see why he thinks it gives him an unfair advantage.”
“Advantage?” I snorted. “It’s not a tennis match.”
“You know what I mean. Finn’s a stickler for being fair about stuff, and this situation clearly bothers him. Whether it’s enough to stop him from getting involved with you, I don’t know. But it’ll always be at the back of his mind.” He gave me a small smile. “But give him time, yeah? He’s going to be extra cautious after everything with Evan.”
I knew the basics of what happened with them, but it wasn’t my business to ask more. Not from Cole, anyway. I trusted him to tell me the truth though. “I’m not in a hurry.”
“Okay.” He straightened. “So, do you need me for anything?”
I shook my head. “No, thanks. I’m just going to go to bed.” I glanced at my pillows. “Oh actually, could you just help slide that spare pillow under my arm once I lie down?”
“Course.” He walked over to the bed and helped me get settled. “Shout if you need anything, yeah? Or send me a text.”
“I will, thanks.”
I lay on my back, listening to his footsteps on the stairs, and stared up at the ceiling thinking about what Christian had said.
It made perfect sense.
But then I’d only just moved in, and I liked living with Finn.
Liked it a whole lot.
Likedhima whole lot.
Would that change if I left?
And where the fuck was I supposed to go?
I might be on better terms with my mum and Clive, but that didn’t mean I wanted to live with them. And with a broken arm, I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to work. Finn charged me less than anywhere I’d seen advertised. I wasn’t exactly in a position to start paying more to live with some stranger.
I yawned, tiredness creeping over me.
I’d think about it tomorrow. I had a week before Finn came back. Hopefully I’d have it sorted in my head by then.
Hopefully he would too.
Closing my eyes, I was just dropping off when my phone buzzed with a text message.
From Finn.
I was smiling before I even read it.
Finn: Hey, how’re you feeling?
Jasper: Knackered, mate. Just got in bed.
Finn: Same.
