What the fuck is happening?
“What’s going on?” Logan asked peering through the van door into the night. As far as he could tell, they were on some country road, fields and trees surrounding them. “And where are we?”
Michael ran a hand through his hair. “We’re just outside of Harrow.” His gaze shot to Logan’s. “Your parents are on their way.”
Logan stared at him open-mouthed for a moment before a rage ignited inside him, barrelling through his body until he shook with it. If he harmed a hair on their fucking heads...
He lurched off his seat, a growl tearing out of him as the handcuffs bit into his skin. “They have nothing to do with this!”
“Oh, they’re more involved than you know, Logan.”
Logan growled again but Michael held his hand up.
“It’s not what you think.” He shared a look with Baker, who nodded at him. Michael took a deep breath. “I founded the CEG.”
What. The. Fuck.
Logan sat back on the bench seat, a laugh escaping him because, seriously? “Bollocks. How fucking stupid do you think we are?”
Nick was the only one who didn’t look like it was the most ridiculous thing he’d ever heard. His head cocked to one side, eyes narrowed.
“I know how unbelievable it sounds, but I don’t have time to convince you. We have roughly an hour before our absence at the prison will be reported. In that time we need to get as far away from London as possible.”
No. No way.
A meow sounded from behind Michael, and Logan would recognise that sound anywhere.
“Smudge?” He peered around Michael and saw a familiar cat carrier on the ground. Relief flooded him.Thank fuck. He’d hoped someone would find her before too long, but he was so bloody happy to see her. “Why do you have my cat?” Not the most pressing question, but Logan couldn’t get it out of his head. “And how did you know she was in my car?”
Michael blew out a breath, clearly frustrated.
Well, join the fucking club.
“Tell him,” Baker said. “We don’t have time for anything else.”
“Jacob reported you both as unreachable. I found out that you were on your way here to get Cole—that’s why Baker and I weren’t in the interrogation room yet. The only way you were going to escape without half the HRU chasing after you was if I drove you out of there.”
It made a certain kind of sense.
If Logan overlooked it was the alpha of the fuckingMcKillanpack saying it. “But—”
“I know you have questions. Alotof questions,” he added when Logan went to speak again. “And I’ll answer what I can but not now.”
“When?”
“When we’re on the road again.”
“Are you going to leave us like this?” Logan asked, shaking his hands and making the shackles jangle.
“No, of course not. I just need to make sure you don’t all bolt as soon as I take them off.”
Logan would be lying if he said he hadn’t thought of doing exactly that. “Would you stop us if we tried?”
Two cars approached them, but instead of looking worried, Michael smiled. “I’m hoping I won’t have to.”
The cars came to a stop and Logan heard doors open and close but he couldn’t see who’d arrived.
But he knew those voices.
