They needed to do better.
Be better.
Easier said than done. As far as Cole was concerned anyway. He’d been a shifter for less than a week. Reining in his senses was always going to be difficult for him. What the fuck had they been thinking?
Cole forced himself, once again, to remember why they were doing it, and guilt took over.
“Same time tomorrow?” he said, pushing all his feelings back down away from the surface as he saw Logan and Aaron to the door.
“Yeah.” Logan brushed past him, his fingers grazing the back of Cole’s hand, lingering for a second out of sight of the cameras. And for that one drawn-out moment, Cole felt like he did back in Cornwall, standing in the sea with Logan under the beautiful Cornish sky.
He sighed, both he and his wolf in sync.
Content.
And then Logan stepped forward and out the door, taking his warmth with him.
As it clicked shut behind them, Cole headed for his bedroom, away from prying eyes.
He was prepared to suck up all the shit coming his way. His new life in the McKillan pack was a necessary evil.
Losing Logan wasn’t part of the deal though, and no way was he prepared to let that happen.
The moment between them might have been fleeting, but it was enough.
It had to be.
