“You heard him, Cole.” Paul gestured towards Logan and stood back.

Cole took a step towards him, syringe in hand. “Where do I inject it?” His hand shook slightly.

Paul shrugged. “Anywhere works, but in the neck is quickest.”

Cole bit his lip, raised the syringe, and placed it against Logan’s neck.

Logan closed his eyes as the needle slid into his skin.

Then the pain hit.

* * *

Cole dropped the syringe,horror-stricken as Logan tipped his head back and roared. The sound reverberated around the room. Fangs ripped through his gums, claws tore out the end of his fingers, the scent of pain rolling off him so strong Cole had to step back.

He’d seen Logan do this once before, but that had been for a few seconds on a sunny afternoon down at the pub. It’d been kind of hot.

But this?

Fucking hell.

Cole felt sick, bile rising up the back of his throat. He swallowed convulsively, fighting to get himself under control.

His team were watching.

Paul was watching, gaze alternating between him and Logan.

Tears spilled out of the corner of Logan’s eyes, trickling down his cheeks and mixing with the blood on his chin.

“You’ve had your fucking fun, give him the antidote,” Aaron yelled, forcing his way in front of Logan.

“Step back, Aaron.” Paul edged Cole out of the way.

Aaron whirled to face him. “Give. Him. The. Antidote.” He spat the words through clenched teeth, eyes flashing and his whole body vibrating with anger.

“’S okay,” Logan mumbled around fangs sharp enough they cut into his lip when he spoke.

“None of this is fucking okay.” Aaron stepped up to Paul, fists clenched tight at his sides.

“Careful,” Paul murmured. “This was sanctioned by Simon. You don’t want me reporting back that you interfered with an HRU training session.”

Aaron seethed, but Cole knew by the tense set of his shoulders that Paul’s words had hit home. “Just get it over with then.” He glanced back at Logan, expression a mixture of fury and defeat, before turning on his heel and walking back over to the far wall.

Paul moved forward and grabbed Logan’s hair, pulling his head up from where he’d slumped forward. “When a shifter’s like this, they’re vulnerable. Their mind isn’t as sharp or as quick, so it’s harder for them to formulate lies and stick to them.” He pointed at the slightly glazed expression in Logan’s eyes. “Ask him something.”

“What?” Cole’s heart rate skyrocketed.

“Start with something simple and build up.”

What the fuck am I supposed to ask him?Logan had been through this before with Tim and not broken, but was this the same stuff? What if it was stronger?

“Ask him.” Paul’s voice had an edge to it. Not the power an alpha’s command would have to it, Cole knew that much, but his wolf still recognised a superior. Cole pushed down the instinct to obey.

Fuck that.

But the sooner he complied the sooner Logan would get the antidote.

“Logan?”
