A laugh burst out of him. “He’s probably just being nice as I looked so fucking pitiful when he first met me this morning.”

“Meh. Even so, a pity fuck isn’t the worst thing ever.” She laughed again when Henry scowled and held up a hand. “Sorry, I’m sure that’s not what this is.”

“I’m not actually sure what it is.” And that was the truth, but to be honest, he was more than happy to go over to Dom’s with no idea where it might lead. Even if he just came straight back after eating, it would make a nice change from the moping around he’d been doing lately. “Anyway, I need to go, El. Got to take my car back and then have a shower before I go to Dom’s.”

She smirked. “Oh yes. Better make sure you’re all clean for your ‘chilli.’” She used air quotes.

“Bye.” Henry ended her call mid-laugh.

His phone chimed with a text a second later.

Ella:Seriously though H, just go have some fun. You deserve a little no-strings hot sex.xx

Henry agreed wholeheartedly.I do. I really fucking do.

Henry: Thanks. Talk to you tomorrow x

Two hourslater Henry was washed, changed, and sat on the sofa with his knee bouncing up and down. Nerves threatened to overtake him, but he forced the feeling back, checking his phone for the umpteenth time.

Even so, the knock on the door made him jump a mile, and Henry laughed at his idiocy as he got up to answer it.

He opened the door to a smiling Dom. “Hey.”

“Hey.” Henry returned his smile, giving him a quick once-over as he opened the door wide and gestured for Dom to come in. The thick fleece he wore hid the muscled chest Henry knew was there, but Dom’s black jeans hugged his thighs like a second skin. Henry swallowed down the flare of anticipation. “I just need to grab my coat and keys.”

Dom waited just inside the door while Henry slipped his coat on and picked up his keys. Two steps towards the door, Henry paused.

He had a couple of condoms and a small bottle of lube in his wash bag, because he was ever the optimist.Should I take them for tonight? Was that where they were headed?

It wasn’t like he’d picked Dom up in a club where sex of some sort was almost a certainty. This was a holiday park and Dom had invited him round for dinner.

In his imagination, that meant a quick bite to eat, then an evening of fucking on the pristine white sheets of the huge bed the villas seemed to come with. But that was all in his head and rarely translated to real life. They hadn’t even so much as kissed. Maybe he wasn’t Dom’s type?

In reality, Henry was adrift in uncharted waters without a clue how to navigate. “Um...” He shifted from foot to foot, unsure how to broach the subject without sounding both presumptuous and possibly a bit of an arse. “Do I need to bring anything?”

“Such as?”

Heat crept up Henry’s neck and he could well imagine the faint blush colouring his skin. He watched, mortified, as Dom’s gaze dropped to his throat and slowly crept back up, understanding seeming to dawn on him.

Dom grinned. “I think I’m prepared for every eventuality.”

“Awesome.” It came out more of a squeak than a word and Henry died a little inside.

Fuck’s sake. Could you be any more awkward?

The likelihood of anything sex-related happening between them would be nil at this rate. They hadn’t even made it outside and he’d already made a twat of himself.

The sigh that slipped out was heavier than he’d intended, and Dom’s gaze shot to his.

“Are you okay?” He took a step closer until they were only inches apart. “If you’d rather not come to mine for dinner tonight, that’s totally fine, Henry. I’m not going to force you.” He smiled, warm and inviting, soothing the nerves threatening to ruin Henry’s evening before it had begun.

“I’m fine, and I do want to spend the evening with you. It’s just...” He bit his lip, wondering how honest to be with someone he’d only met that morning.

“Just what?” Dom waited for him to answer, hands tucked into his pockets, an air of patience surrounding him like he’d give Henry all the time in the world to answer.

And it was that easy manner that tipped Henry over the edge. Dom gave the impression that simple honesty would be more welcome than any bullshit, no matter how blunt that truth might be.
