Dom set his spoon down with a sigh. “I don’t know.”
“You still like him though, right?”
“Yeah, I do.” And after a week of seeing him every day, Dom missed him, but...
And there it was.
Did he want to pick up where they left off?
“I like this thing we’ve got going on.” He gestured to his phone.
Nathan studied him for a long moment. “You like texting him when you could be fucking?”
Of course Dom missed the sex. Going from having Henry in his bed to his own hand wasn’t the best, but what they were doing was... nice.
Dom shrugged, not wanting to explain how getting Henry’s texts was the highlight of his day, and he was okay with just that for now.
Nathan’s gaze softened. “You really do like him.”
“Yeah.”
“Okay. In that case, message him. Or maybe, I don’t know, give him a call since texts can always be taken the wrong way.”
“Yeah, maybe.” Dom wasn’t shy or nervous by any stretch of the imagination, but for whatever reason, the thought of speaking to Henry on the phone made his palms sweat.
By mutual agreement they moved on to safe topics for the rest of the evening. But Dom went to bed that night with every intention of calling Henry once he was settled. Unfortunately he fell asleep before he had chance and woke the next morning to his alarm and a missed opportunity.
Shit.
I really wanted to clear the air last night.
Reaching for his phone, Dom held his breath, only to let it out with a whoosh when he saw the waiting message. Sent at ten to six that morning.
Wow, Henry was up with the birds.
Henry: Morning. Sorry about last night. I felt a bit awkward and not sure what to say.
Dom typed and deleted his message about four times before hitting Send.
Dom: That’s ok. I hope I didn’t sound like a condescending wanker?
He didn’t expect a reply immediately, so he set his phone down and got ready for work.
* * *
Henry replied at lunch time.
Henry: No more than usual.
It took Dom a minute to get his meaning, but before he had chance to be offended, his phone buzzed again.
Henry: I’m joking! ;)
The tension Dom had carried since he woke up melted away and he settled back into his seat, lunch forgotten.
Dom: So, about your lack of Xmas decorations...
Henry: That’s what I meant to ask you yesterday before I got all pissy and stomped off.
