“I have. I’ll never do it again, but I have.”
“And all I’m saying is this place is cozy. Kind of rustic.”
“Rustic is awesome,” she said. “As long as there is a toilet, a bed, and a fridge, I think we are good.”
“It’s got all of that,” he said drily.
He maneuvered them through the slow trek out of Boston. Not as slow as it could be since they were leaving after rush hour traffic.
“Then we will be set. I’m assuming we are going to stop for some food for the weekend.”
“On the way,” he said. “We’ll pass a store before we get there and can run in to get what we need.”
She’d left work before him, walked home, eaten a light dinner, then he called when he was on the way. It was planned to go later anyway.
“I’m pretty flexible,” she said.
“And that is what I’m hoping for.”
“Don’t be typical,” she said, laughing. “You’re better than that.”
He reached his hand over to pat her thigh. “I am better than that. But just happy to have this time with you.”
“Me too. I feel as if we can relax more. You don’t always seem that when we are doing things. Or unless we are in your place.”
He sighed. “It’s been hard. I’m a fairly private person, but it feels as if we have to be more so.”
“Because I work for you.”
“It’s what we both want,” he said. “At least in terms of work. I’m not always noticed but can be.”
And they walked the area, doing things, going out to eat.
They hadn’t gone to the island because his family didn’t know and they’d find out, as he didn’t have his own place to stay.
Though they could stay at the casino, but she didn’t want to spend a weekend there and have memories of what she’d done before.
It didn’t feel like the healthiest of relationships at the moment, but it was what they had.
“I’ve seen it during the week when I’ve left to get lunch and you’re coming back to the building. Or leaving it the same time as me.”
They almost always kept their distance, or at least didn’t go to the same places. Most knew by now who she was in terms of him, but it didn’t change the fact that if they were out to lunch together, some might think it was more than work.
They wouldn’t be wrong either.
“I guess I never realized how annoying it can be.”
Because he was a friendly guy and used to people calling his name or wanting to be around him. For many reasons.
Men to elevate their status. Women to say they got his attention.
She’d never been one who wanted eyes on her. Yet here she was, not only dating her boss, but someone that she’d recently overheard was considered one of the most eligible and sought out bachelors of Boston.
And he wantedher.
She was still trying to wrap her head around that fact.
Was it because of the way she looked?
