I've just got to make it through tonight. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll be able to leave. Able to walk.

“You're making this difficult, baby.”

“I'm. Not. Your. Baby.”

I stand in anger and immediately regret it, experiencing shooting pain in my legs, my core, and throughout my spine. I collapse and Enzo catches me, gently lifting me into his arms.

“We made a deal, Adriana. You're mine now.”

“You can't do this.” I stammer and it’s a sign of weakness. “I'm not staying. You can't make me do this.”

Enzo lowers me onto the bed, smiling as I ease away from him.

“Adriana, you made a deal. You get what you want. In exchange, I get you.”

“You had me. We're even.”

His head tilts, and he isn't softening the blow he's delivering. “Indefinitely.”

I shake my head and back the fuck away. All the way until my back hits the headboard and there's nowhere else for me to go.

“This is fucking insane. You can't make me stay, Enzo. It's illegal or something. The police...”

“Won't do a fucking thing.” His eyes darken and he draws himself up, using every goddamn muscle in his honed body to intimidate me. “You made a deal with the devil, sweet girl. Now, there's no escape from me.”

He smirks, and it's despicable.

I loathe him.

With every cell in my body.

With all the rage in my soul.

“Since we're talking now, we may as well get a few things straight.”

I pull the sheet over me and cross my arms in front of me, hoping they'll protect me from whatever is coming next. If the look on Enzo’s face is anything to go on, this won’t be pleasant. It's going to be worse than unpleasant.

“You literally made a deal with a devil.”

Enzo stares at me and his eyes darken until all the irises are pitch black and only a few flecks of red and gold break up their darkness. He smiles and the shape of his face changes, impossibly elongating into something truly terrifying. It's sharp, chiseled, and sinister.

I shake my head, wondering what the fuck he's drugged me with.

“This is my other form,” he sighs. “Toned down. I'm afraid you’re fucked, Adriana. In more ways than one.”

My mouth falls as I shake, trembling as the realization that my eyes aren't lying to me hits. Hard. Damn hard.

“What the fuck?”

“We'll save the horns for later,” Enzo says, staring at me as if he wants to devour me. “Technically, I'm a demon, not a fallen angel. A powerful one, before you get any ideas.” He steps closer and there's no escape. “I suppose it isn't quite a deal with the Devil himself, but it's a close enough analogy for you to understand your position.”

I swallow, and the blood drains from my face.

“You can't...”

He sighs. “It's done, sweet girl. I wanted you and now I have you. For as long as I want. An eternity, if I so choose.”

Enzo moves toward the bed and I shuffle to the far side, trying to put as much distance between us as possible. He lowers himself and I spring forward, forcing my legs to take the weight they refused to earlier. I race towards the door, legs flailing and arms flapping wildly. This is my only chance and I can't afford to waste it.
