With her, he could cherish every single daywithout the insatiable compulsion to satisfy the demon inside him.A demon that was never sated untilher.

And she gave him hope for a future thatseemed bleak long before they locked him inside a glass cage.

“I want to join you,” she whispered.

Kyle stopped moving as the demon surging tothe forefront clamored to turn her now. He beat it back as heprocessed her words.

“You want to become a vampire and my mate?”he asked.

“Yes.”

The demon screamed hungrily inside him as itclawed at his insides and sought to break free. He managed to keepit suppressed as he locked her in his embrace and rolled herover.

Melanie laughed when she found herself pinnedbeneath him. But the ravenous look on his face caused her laughterto trail away. Her heart raced a little faster, but she wasn’tscared of him.

His face relaxed, and his body eased aroundher as he reclaimed her mouth. When he started moving within heragain, she locked her legs around his waist and clung to him as hekissed her until she couldn’t remember her name. When she came, hiskiss muffled her cries.

Kyle gritted his teeth against coming. Hewaited for her orgasm to ebb before settling his fangs over thevein in her throat. When she threaded her fingers through his hairand pulled him closer, he bit deep.

She arched beneath him as he clasped herhands. He lifted them above her head and thrust into her while herblood infused him with strength. Her head fell back as she met hisincreasing demand for more from her supple body.

Melanie was sure she couldn’t take much moreof this as her body splintered apart again, and she came so hardshe couldn’t stifle her cries. When Kyle groaned and plunged intoher once more, his shaft pulsed inside her as he came.

Her haze of euphoria ebbed as she floatedback to earth. With that ebb came the awareness of her weakeningbody. She trusted him completely, but she couldn’t stop the jolt ofalarm that went through her when her heartbeat stuttered.

Kyle retracted his fangs. He released herhands, bit his wrist, and placed his arm to her lips when his bloodspilled free. At first, her mouth remained closed against him, butthen her lips parted, and she drank his blood.

The worst of the transition was still tocome, and he had to feed more to ensure she got through it, but hewould take care of her, and when it was over, he would claim hismate.

CHAPTER 54

Two days later,Melanie stepped out of the house and walked over to the porch swingwhere Lucy sat. Her friend lifted the blanket draped over her lapto make room for Melanie. When she settled beside her, Lucy pulledthe blanket over them.

On the large lawn, the kids squealed as theychased Dawg around. Melanie smiled as she listened to them, buttheir screams were a lot louder now that her ears weren’t human.Though she loved their laughter, the harsh sound made her itch tocover her ears and run back inside.

“You get used to it,” Lucy said.

“Is it that obvious?” she asked.

“Every time they scream, you wince. But youwillget used to it a lot faster than you think you will. There are times when loud sounds, and how incredibly detailedeverything is now, is still jarring to me, but I’ve mostly adjustedalready.”

“Everythingisa lot brighter, and Inever knew there were so many shades of colors before. I might evenbe able to tell the difference between blush and coral now.”

“What?” Lucy asked.

Melanie chuckled. “It’s just this thing.”

“Oh, well, there is no difference betweenblush and coral.”

“Kyle doesn’t think so either.”

They fell into silence as the swung slowlyback and forth. Melanie couldn’t stop taking in all the strikingdifferences in the world now.

“It is amazing, isn’t it?” Lucy asked after afew minutes. “We were missing out on things and never realizedit.”

“It is amazing,” Melanie agreed.

And that was something she hadn’t believedpossible yesterday. She’d spent the day gritting her teeth andtrying not to scream as the agony of her transition wracked herbody, but she’d failed. She was certain the others had heard hercries.
