Melanie groaned in disappointment when heslid out of her, but she didn’t get a chance to protest too muchbefore he carried her out of the kitchen, across the living room,and into her bedroom.
Kyle used his heel to kick the door shutbefore carrying her over to the bed. He laid her down and steppedback to pull off his jeans.
“This is only the beginning,” he told herbefore joining her on the bed.
She rolled over and pulled open the drawer onher nightstand. Digging inside, she removed one of the condoms Lucyalways insisted she keep nearby. She’d never dug into the stashbefore.
“It’s a little late,” she said. “But….”
Her voice trailed off as he took the condomfrom her. “I don’t have any diseases,” he assured her. “I’ve beentested.”
He hadn’t, but he wanted to assure her, andhe couldn’t tell her that he didn’t have any diseases because hewas a vampire.
“Neither do I, but I’m also not on birthcontrol.”
She hadn’t required it, but she’d neverexpected to have sex in her kitchen. Lucy would laugh her ass offif she came home and discovered Melanie’s clothes in there. Sheshould get them, but she couldn’t bring herself to care too muchabout it right now.
She expected to see fear or maybe annoyancewhen she revealed her lack of birth control, but he smiled as hetook the condom from her. Her confession didn’t do anything tosoften his renewed erection either.
Melanie couldn’t help smiling as shestretched her arms above her head and took in all of his powerful,magnificent body before he crawled onto the bed and came down ontop of her.
CHAPTER 13
Over the next week,when he wasn’t working and she wasn’t in school or working, theyspent all of their time together. His anxious sister was drivinghim nuts. The distress in her eyes when she questioned him aboutMelanie was almost more than he could take.
“She’s human,” Cassidy said to him one nightas they left work together.
“Is she? I never would have guessed,” heteased.
She glowered at him as Dante joined them.“It’s not funny. Do you think she’s your mate?”
“I know she is.”
That revelation didn’t ease Cassidy’sanxiety; instead, it increased it as she glanced nervously aroundthe street. “What are you going to do?”
“I’m going to enjoy being with her and seehow it goes. Hopefully, when the time comes to reveal what I am,she won’t be repulsed by me and will agree to join me.”
Cassidy twisted her hands nervously beforeher as they walked down the street toward her and Dante’sapartment. He was supposed to see Melanie tonight, but he couldtake a few minutes to ease his sister’s worry.
“And if she doesn’t agree to join you?”Cassidy inquired.
“I’ll deal with that obstacleifIcome to it.”
“This is yourlifewe’re talkingabout, Kyle.”
He rested his hand on her shoulder, and shestopped walking to face him. “I know, but it’s too soon to dropthat bomb on her. If, when the time comes for that, she decides toturn me away, I won’t be able to stop her.”
Cassidy bit her lip as she glanced nervouslyat her mate. “She might be angry at you for keeping the truth fromher.”
“I’m sure she will be, but I can’t tell hernow. We’ve been together for a week; evenyouhave to admitit’s too soon to reveal the existence of vampires to her. I have tokeep our family safe too.”
“Yes, but if she falls for you, then learnsyou’ve been keeping this from her and getsreallypissedoff, what then?”
“What would you have me do, Cassidy?”
Cassidy’s shoulders sagged. “I would have hadyou find avampiremate.”
Kyle laughed. “Well, unfortunately, noteverything works out asyouwould plan. I’m doing the best Ican. The last thing I want to do is hurt or lose her. I’m figuringit out as I go.”
