“I understand, but what if they killpeople?”

Lucy’s gaze drifted toward the large baydoors. “I can live with that.”

Melanie wasn’t shocked by Lucy’s convictionor that a large part of her was okay with it too. They were trappedin Jurassic Park, and the dinosaurs had started eating thetourists.

“No one deserves to die, but they did putthemselves here,” Melanie said.

She wasn’t sure what she would have done inLucy’s position, but she suspected it might have been the samething. Monsters or not, she hated seeing those things trapped inthere.

Kyle waved Melanie and Lucy back as heapproached the doorway. Cautiously, he crept to the side of theopen door and craned his head to peer inside. He didn’t see anyoneinside, but when he pushed the door further open, a shot rang outand a bullet whizzed past his head.

It was so close it sliced across his cheek. Atrickle of blood spilled down his face before he ducked low andcharged inside. When another shot rang out, he threw himself to theground and rolled across the floor.

He came up against the desk, and from theother side, he saw someone duck behind it. He lay against themetal, waiting to see what would happen, but the other persondidn’t move.

With so many enemies out there now, he had tobe quick about this. The shots would have alerted everyone in thisplace that something was happening in the garage. It was only amatter of time before someone headed this way; they had to get outof here.

He considered crawling around the desk, butthat’s probably what the other person expected. If he went over thetop, he would get shot, and if he stayed here, more enemies woulddescend on them.

Lucy had provided a distraction when she setthe Savages free, but she’d also added a great degree of difficultyto their escape. The Savages sought vengeance, and they didn’t carewhat humans they took their revenge out on. He couldn’t let themget near Melanie or Lucy.

He gripped the bottom edge of the desk, lifted it, and flipped it over. A muffled scream came from theother side before the desk hit the wall and rattled the glass inthe nearby window.

The man hiding behind the desk screamed againand started firing, but Kyle was already seizing the barrel of thegun and tearing it away. He delivered one solid punch to the guy’sface, and the screaming stopped.

Rising, Kyle bent to check the man’s pulse. He was still alive, but he’d have one hell of a headache when hewoke up.

“It’s safe,” he called.

Melanie and Lucy poked their heads around thedoor.

“Is he dead?” Lucy asked.

“No.”

“The keys are over there,” Melanie said andpointed at a pegboard on the left wall.

Kyle held the gun as he strode over to theboard and searched the keys.

“Not a van,” Melanie said.

“It will be the safest way to get the two ofyou of out here,” he replied.

“I don’t ever want to ride in one of thosethings again,” Lucy said.

“Besides,” Melanie said, “if somethinghappened to you, we would be trapped in the back.”

No matter how badly he wanted to keep hersafe, he couldn’t take that risk with her. They needed a chance toget away if something happened to him.

“Nothing is going to happen to me,” he saidas he lifted the keys for an SUV. “Let’s go.”

Kyle hit the button on the keychain as hereentered the garage. The lights on a silver Chevy Tahoeflashed.

“How do we open the garage doors?” heasked.

“There’s a controller inside the vehicle, orat least there always was. It’s on the visor over the driver seat,”Lucy answered.

“Both of you, get in the back and on thefloor,” he said as he unlocked the doors.
