His possession of her body was so completeshe wasn’t sure where he started and she began. She had no doubtshe was meant to be with this man, thisvampire.

Kyle ran his fingers through her hair andpulled her head back as she whispered, “I love you.”

“I love you too,” he told her as he kissedher ear before moving toward her neck.

His fangs scraping her flesh caused a smalljolt of panic that quickly faded. Yes, he was a vampire, but shetrusted him completely.

“It won’t hurt if you don’t fight it,” Kyletold her. “If you fight it, it will be extremely painful.”

“I’m not going to fight it,” she said.

Beneath his lips, her pulsing blood was atemptation he couldn’t resist. His lips skimmed back, and he sankhis fangs into her throat.

Melanie clutched his back as a twinge ofdiscomfort flared before fading. Then, as she felt the pull of herblood, the pain became replaced by a euphoria, the likes of whichshe’d never experienced before.

Kyle had never tasted anything as exquisiteas her blood. It seeped through his system and filled him in a waynothing ever had before while infusing him with strength andvitality.

The demon within him calmed as her bloodsated its incessant clamoring for its mate. Unable to controlhimself, he moved faster within her as he restrained himself fromtaking too much.

When she cried out again and her sheathclenched around his dick, he couldn’t stop himself from followingher over the edge. A tingle raced up his spine, and he pulled outof her a second before he came. The flow of her blood muffled hisshout.

CHAPTER 39

Nestled within Kyle’sarms, Melanie told him about her mother’s death, her unusualchildhood, and her father’s obsessive compulsion to hunt andexperiment on vampires.

“I’m not sure if he’s ever killed a vampire,so I’m not sure what his ultimate goal is.”

“What do you think it is?”

“I’m not sure. Maybe immortality, a cure forcancer, or maybe he enjoys torturing them. I know Delilah enjoysit.”

“And Delilah is?”

“The woman who came down with us that firsttime they allowed me to see you. She’s Lucy’s mother, and she isawful.”

Kyle remembered her but didn’t say anything. From upstairs, a muffled shout caught his attention, and he satup.

“Lucy!” Melanie cried and bolted upright.

How could she have forgotten about herfriend? She scrambled to gather her clothes.

“You have to stay here,” Kyle said as heclasped her arm. “You have to stay away from her. She’ll be okay, Ipromise, but the transition is extremely difficult, and she’ll needblood to complete it. She’ll go after the first source she can, andI won’t let that be you.”

“But….” Her protest died off when anothermuffled shout came from upstairs.

“Stay here,” Kyle told her.

Melanie started to argue but stopped whenLucy released a sound that made her blood run cold. “She’s myfriend,” she whispered.

And she’d proven herself to be a wicked, shitty friend by completely forgetting Lucy was suffering while shewas screwing her… boyfriend? She had no idea how to describe Kyleanymore, and it didn’t matter.

“I know, but she’ll kill you withoutrealizing it,” Kyle said.

“Oh,” Melanie breathed as her gaze went tothe ceiling. She couldn’t go up there. “Isn’t there something I cando?”

“You can stay here and stay safe.”

“Take care of her.”
