“Fuck!” Kyle snarled.

“Easy,” Isabelle said and rested her hand onhis arm. “We’ll get her out of there.”

“I remember what she looked like from thefirst time you met her,” Brian said to Kyle. “It might be enoughfor me to find her once we’re in there.”

“What do you think is the best way to get inthere?” David asked.

Lucy stared at her drawing before looking atthem. “There’s no way we can sneak in, so there’s really only oneapproach.”

“All at once and through the gate,” Kylesaid.

“It’s not going to be pretty or perfect, butI think it’s our best bet.”

“I’ll disable the airbags in the vehicles,”Julian said. “We can’t have them going off on us.”

“Good,” David said.

“Our other problem is they’re human,” Jacksaid. “They’re a lot weaker than Savages, but their guns arelethal, and we can’t kill them like we can Savages. That is goingto hinder us.”

“I’ll kill them,” Kyle muttered.

The anxious look his mom gave him caused himto tamp down on some of the murderous rampage coiling insidehim.

“A few are going to end up getting killed,”Vicky’s mate, Nathan, said.

“There’s no way around that,” Declanagreed.

“None of you have to do this,” Kyle said.

“True, but we’re going to,” Ethanreplied.

Declan unwrapped a lollipop and stuck it inhis mouth as they all stared at the drawing again.

“You grew up in this place?” Maggie askedLucy.

“Yes.”

“And you’re okay with being a vampire?”Mollie asked.

Lucy’s gaze settled on Kyle. “Yes. And Iwouldn’t change a thing. My mother’s sins are not mine.”

They all exchanged a look.

“That must have been a miserable childhood,”Charlie said.

Lucy shrugged. “It wasn’t fun, but Melanieand I survived it together. We have to get her back.”

“We will,” Kyle growled. “Let’s go.”

CHAPTER 44

They approached thefencing through the woods, having left the vehicles parked on theside of the road a mile back. Lucy said the cameras were only halfa mile out from the facility, but they were extra cautious andstopped a mile away. Once they were in range of the cameras, theymoved more cautiously through the woods to make sure no one in thefacility detected them.

They’d driven all night and arrived outsidethe facility a couple of hours after dawn. Kyle squinted againstthe sun filtering through the trees. Its rays stung his skin in away they never had before. He recalled the guard he’d gunned downin the facility. The life he’d taken had left its mark on him, butit was worth it, and he would take more if necessary.

When they arrived at the facility, Kyle kneltin the woods to study the gate and the guards behind it. Half adozen armed guards stood near the repaired main entrance, andanother six stood outside the building.

Despite the hasty repairs to the fence, theystill wouldn’t be able to get through it by charging at it, notwithout getting shot and possibly losing someone. And he would notlet that happen. If he died saving her, then so be it, but he wouldnotlose anyone else.
