For one thing, they were all completely mortal. She wasn’t immortal, but her aging process was a lot different than a human’s. There could never be anything serious with any of them when she would still look like she was in her twenties while almost fifty, and when he would be on his deathbed in his nineties, while she was still in great health.

But with Logan, none of those things mattered. With him, like this, they were the only two people in the world as he slipped into her body and soul until they were intertwined. She’d come here looking to forget everything, and he’d certainly made her do that, but now apprehension was creeping in as she realized she might have bitten off far more than she could chew.

“You feel amazing,” he murmured as he ran his palm down her back.

His touch calmed her turbulent emotions as she began riding his shaft. She’d never been in this position before, and she liked it as he grasped her hair and wrapped it around his wrist.

He pulled her back until his lips caressed her spine. Keeping his other hand on her waist, he guided her back and forth. When he nipped at her silken skin, his fangs slid free before he could stop them but didn’t puncture her flesh.

He wouldn’t feed on her unless she gave him permission. And right now, being inside her was enough to keep the demon at bay.

Elena moved faster as her passion grew. She was thoroughly enjoying this, but she yearned to see his face. When his lips grazed her spine, her pulse quickened as his fangs grazed her.

Then, using her hair, he gently pulled her further back. Releasing her hair, he clasped her throat. The pointed tips of his fangs skimming her vein sent anticipation and lust pounding through her.

She couldn’t breathe, and her head spun as she breathlessly waited for more, but it didn’t come. Instead, he withdrew from her, and she moaned in disappointment.

Lifting her, Logan laid Elena down on the couch beneath him. Her startled, black eyes met his as he came down on top of her and sank leisurely back into her.

“I had to see you,” he said.

And she was glad he did. Elena draped her arms around his neck and pulled him down for a kiss. As their tongues entwined, he moved within her, and Elena wrapped her legs around his waist to lift her hips.

She broke the kiss as his next thrust sent a spiral of ecstasy out from her core, up her belly, and down her legs. The tingling sensation swept down to her toes as her back bowed off the couch.

Logan marveled at her beauty as her head fell back, and she released a cry that struck him to the center of his soul. As her muscles contracted around his dick, he came with a force the likes of which he never experienced before.

His hands fisted in the couch cushions and dug into the material as she turned her head to expose more of her delicate throat. One of his urges had been satisfied, but the one for her blood burned through him as he moved within her again.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Elena woketo discover herself locked securely in Logan’s arms the next morning. His chest pressed against her back, and he’d draped his leg over hers. She’d never been held like this before.

Yes, she’d woken up with her past lovers, but none of them ever held her this tenderly or possessively before. To her surprise, shelovedit. Despite that, she was grateful for the IUD she had installed two years ago. She wasnotready for babies. She hadn’t been sure how it would be for a hunter, but she didn’t have any kids yet, so she’d developed a lot more faith in it.

When she cracked her eyes open, her gaze fell on the clock beside the bed. She tried to bolt upright when she saw it was five in the morning, but Logan pulled her back down. He issued a growl that caused her toes to curl as his hand slid down her belly.

“What’s the rush?” he asked.

“I have to get out of here before the compound wakes up.”

His hand stilled on her stomach as her words sank in. Her movement had pulled him from sleep, but her words brought him back to reality.

“Are you already regretting what happened last night?” he inquired.

Elena was so close to panicking that his words didn’t register for a minute. When they did, she twisted to try to see him, but his head was below hers on the pillow.

“No, of course not,” she said. “I just can’t be seen leaving this place at five in the morning.”

“Because I’m a vampire?”

Elena heaved a sigh of impatience and tried to tug free of his arms. “No, because you know as well as I do that an unmarried hunter woman leaving a man’s house would be ahugescandal around here. Sure, they’ve made changes since I left, but that is not something I can handle right now, and neither can my mother.”

She was right; Logan realized as the last of his irritation faded away. If they caught her leaving this house, it would be all the compound would talk about for years to come.

It wasn’t something that happened; although, it actually did. Most didn’t get caught, and he couldn’t let her be either. She and Rosa had been through enough without adding this to their pile of problems.

Elena rose from the bed and turned in a circle as she searched the room for her clothes. They were here, somewhere; she was sure of it. Logan had gone out to retrieve them after they retreated to his room last night, but she’d fallen asleep before he returned.
