“And if she can’t, then we’re just puttingher in danger,” Del said.
“I wish we knew the reason for the glow,”Sahira murmured as she picked at her green beans.
“Maybe she can harvest the power of the lightand turn it into something?” Varo suggested.
Cole rubbed at his beard as he pondered this.“Maybe, but I’ve touched her while she’s been glowing, and itdidn’t affect me in any way. If she were harvesting the power ofthe light to use as a weapon, then she would have accidentallyturned it loose on one of us by now.”
“I agree,” Kaylia said.
“It has to be used for something other thanlighting up the night,” Orin insisted.
“No one is arguing that,” Del said as hesipped a goblet of blood. He was the only one at the table noteating. “But it’s not something volatile… or at least not sofar.”
“We need a dragon,” Orin insisted.
“And how do you plan to catch one?” Brokksnapped.
“Well, that’s easy enough.” When they allstared blankly at him, he smiled. “With bait.”
“What kind of bait?” Cole askedskeptically.
Orin’s smile was not reassuring. “Why,something a dragon would eat, of course.”
“Of course,” Cole muttered and bit into hischicken.
“It would eat you,” Sahira said.
“I’m warming up to this dragon idea,” Delsaid as he set his goblet down. “Do we take Orin to an outer realmor stake him outside and see if one hears his screams and comes toeat him?”
“Don’t be silly,” Orin replied. “I’m far toohandsome to be dragon bait.”
“I don’t think they care what you look like,”Varo said.
“We’ll find more appealing bait than me.Something bigger. Maybe a giant.”
“Good luck with that,” Brokk muttered.
At the same time, Kaylia snorted, “You’reinsane.”
“Maybe a little,” Orin admitted.
“A giant would stomp you into the ground,”Kaylia said.
“I’m too fast for that.”
“Your humility will get you killed,” Varosaid.
Del lifted his goblet in the air. “We canhope.”
“Don’t expose yourself,” Cole said to Orin.“We worked too hard to keep your existence a secret to have youblow it.”
“I would never,” Orin replied.
Deciding to ignore his brother, Cole shiftedhis attention to the others. “I’m going to take Lexi away tomorrow. It’s time for her to take a break. We can work on trying to unlockher other abilities after that.”
“I think that’s a great idea,” Del said.
Cole still hoped Del considered it a greatidea after talking to him. “Can I speak to you privately?”
