Her fingers tugged at his hair, and she cried out. He smiled as she came before lifting her off him. She slid down his body and wiggled her hips to take him into her. Grasping the back of her head, he drew her down to kiss her again.

“I love fucking you,” he whispered against her mouth.

She smiled. “I love when you fuck me harder.”

He wrapped his arm around her waist and turned her over. Bracing himself between her legs, he lifted one of her legs as he plunged deeper into her.

Seeking to feed, the dark fae part of him rose to feast on the energy their joining created. His head fell back as the shadows stirred within him and his power grew. The potency of that energy seeped through his body, flooded his veins, and swelled his muscles.

When she released a loud cry and her sheath clenched around his cock, he thrust deep again and again before burying himself inside her. A tingle ran down his spine, and his back bowed as he came.

Completely sated, he almost collapsed on top of her but caught himself as he lowered his head to rest it in the hollow of her neck. Her sweet scent assailed him as she turned her mouth into his neck and bit deep to feed.

CHAPTERTWENTY-FOUR

A knockon the door finally caused Lexi to stir in Cole’s arms. She mentally slapped herself when she recalled they were supposed to go to the witches’ realm, and instead, she was sleeping. She hadn’t expected to fall asleep, but exhaustion won out.

Cole’s arms tightened around her as she lifted her head from his chest. He’d managed to get the blankets out from under them at some point. He’d pulled them around her and tucked her in against his chest.

She nestled into the warmth and security he offered as his head turned toward the door. In this room, with no windows, it was impossible to tell what time it was, but it felt late.

“What is it?” Cole called.

“I came to see if Lexi wanted to work on spells before going to Verdan?” Kaylia called through the door.

It must not be too late if Kaylia was looking for her. When Lexi started to move, Cole’s arms clamped around her and he growled.

“I have to practice,” she reminded him. He grunted in response, and she smiled at him as she tapped her fingers on his chest. “It will make me stronger, and if I can mastersomething, maybe the witches will respect me a little more and be willing to help us.”

He grunted again.

“I’ll be there in ten minutes!” Lexi called out.

“See you soon,” Kaylia said.

Her footsteps faded swiftly away from their door.

“We have to go,” Lexi said. “And when I’m done working with Kaylia, we’re going to Verdan, and no arguments from you.”

Cole quirked an eyebrow. “Bossy little thing, aren’t you?”

She smiled as she tapped her fingers on his chest. “You know you like it.”

“I do. You also need some more rest.”

“I’ve rested far more than I planned already. We have to get back to recruiting. I hope I can figure outsomethingelse I can do before then.”

He ran his fingers through her hair. “Stop being so hard on yourself. It will come in time, and you’ve already learned and mastered so much.”

“Hmm.”

“Lexi.”

“Okay, okay,” she relented.

He hugged her closer before reluctantly releasing her. She wasn’t exactly thrilled to work on spells; it was an increasingly frustrating endeavor, but she possessed some kind of magic. She had to figure out what and how to make it work.

You figured out how to create a shield and activate your fire. You’ll figure this out too, she reminded herself as she pulled on a bathrobe and hurried out of the room to take a shower.
