When Kaylia glanced at them, Cole nodded for her to close the door.
“Do you plan to try to put her on the throne?” Elfie asked.
“Itismy throne,” Lexi said. “And mybirthright.”
“And what will you do with it?”
“What do you mean?”
“You see what the Lords have done over the past thousand years. What willyoudo with that power?”
“Return the realms to places of relative peace, give the dragons their freedom, and end all the brutality.Noonewill ever have to fear having their homes destroyed because I’m bored or annoyed with them. Immortals and mortals alike will know security again. They can rebuild without the worry of having it all torn away from them once more.”
“Do you think she’ll make a good leader?” Elfie asked Varo.
“Why does my opinion matter? You don’t know me or my judgment skills.”
“I know who you were as a child, and I have never forgotten the tenderhearted boy who may have looked more dark fae but had a light fae heart. I know what side you chose during the war, and I know you’re standing here with the brother you sided against. That shows me you don’t harbor resentment and bitterness.”
Unlike his mother,Lexi thought.
“I believe you’re a good man, and I will trust your judgment,” Elfie continued.
“Lexi will make an excellent queen of the realms, and together, she and Cole will domanygood things for all immortals. I do not doubt that,” Varo stated emotionlessly.
“Neither do I,” Kaylia said.
Lexi welcomed their vote of confidence. She still wasn’t sure how great a job she’d do, but she would do her best to be a good leader. Plus, she wouldn’t torture or kill people for fun, which was a vast improvement.
“The arach kept their powers mostly to themselves,” Elfie continued.
“I’m very aware,” Lexi muttered.
“You’ve figured out your fire.”
“Yes.”
“What about their magic?”
“I’m still struggling with that. I’m not sure what they were capable of doing.”
“Well, as I said, they were creatures of nature. They thrived outdoors; they had an affinity for plants, animals, and dragons. Sometimes, I swear, they communicated with nature.”
Lexi frowned as she recalled the luna flowers sliding across her fingers and dipping down to caress her while sitting in the moon room. Cole had never seen them react to anyone who wasn’t a lycan before, but they liked her.
She’d certainly never communicated with them or any other animal. It would beamazingif she could.
Is there a chance the effects of Sahira’s potion are still lingering? It wasn’t something she’d considered once she started glowing in natural light and creating fire, but maybe some of it remained in her system and was still suppressing some of her abilities.
She had been taking the potion her entire life and had only been off it for a little over a month. It would make sense if it was still affecting her. Maybe she wasn’t having such a difficult time unlocking her abilities because she couldn’t figure it out; perhaps, it was because some of them were still locked away.
She glanced at Cole and Kaylia but held the question back. They could discuss it later.
CHAPTERTHIRTY-ONE
“I thinkthe arach gained strength from nature, but I can’t be sure,” Elfie continued.
Lexi had always loved animals and nature; she’d always felt rejuvenated around them, but gained strength from them? She definitely couldn’t say that, but maybe she was missing something there.
