“What if they create a zombie dragon?” Varo inquired.

Beside him, Lexi shuddered and grasped her elbows as she hugged herself. “I think the other dragons could take down such a monstrosity, but how many would we lose? How many could also become corrupted in such a way?”

“They’d have to get a hold of a dragon to make it happen, and what are the chances of that?” Cole asked.

“If there’s atinychance, we shouldn’t take it,” Brokk said. “Could you imagine anything worse than a brain-eating zombie dragon?”

Cole had to agree it was a pretty appalling prospect, but the zombies could help them with this.

“I can’t,” Skog said.

“Neither can I,” Niall said.

“If the plan works, there wouldn’t be any dragons near the zombies,” Del said.

“I think Del’s plan is brilliant, and I understand how the zombies could help us by providing a good distraction for the Lord’s men, but I donotwant to go into battle with those things at my side. I don’t care if they’re fighting with us or not,” Sahira said.

“The zombies would drive back the Lord’s men faster than our army alone,” Maverick said.

Cole rubbed his chin as he studied Del’s plan. As far as things went, it was brilliant in its simplicity. They wouldn’t require a large army to pull it off if all went right.

However, a large army, especially one that could terrify the Lord’s men, would give them a better chance of winning. He looked over at Lexi. She bit her bottom lip as she studied Del’s plan.

“What do you think?” he asked her.

“I can draw the dragons away; I know it. They’ll come to me once I lower my shield and sense I’m there.”

Cole studied the X at the edge of the map Del drew. That X would be him, Lexi, and everyone else in this room… in the beginning.

Once Lexi opened a portal onto those mountains, they would all enter Dragonia through a portal the Lord couldn’t guard. She would then lower her shield, absorb as much sunlight as possible, and glow for all the dragons to see.

She was right; the dragons would come to her. Once they did, the others would leave through her portal and return to the prison. From there, they would open portals to different realms where they would locate the various portals that were the only ways into Dragonia.

He didn’t doubt the Lord would have those portals heavily guarded in Dragonia, but his army would be a lot weaker without the dragons. That would give them a much better shot of getting through the Lord’s army. The zombies would increase their chances.

CHAPTERFIFTY-EIGHT

“What if theLord has men guarding the entrance to the portals?” Cole asked. “Our army will run across them before they enter Dragonia.”

“I’ve already scoped out the portals we would use in the human realm, the Gloaming, Verdan, and the other realms. The portals are all still open and unguarded. I’m sure the Lord has high numbers guarding the portalsinDragonia, but there’s no one on those other portals. There are too many of them; he would have to spread his army too thin, and he’s not going to do that. He’s insane, not stupid,” Del said.

“You went alone?” Lexi asked.

“I was safe.”

“You still shouldn’t have gone alone.”

“It was something we needed the answer to if this plan was going to work.”

“We did,” Cole murmured.

“We’ll check the portals again before we go to war, but I don’t think things will change anytime soon,” Del said.

“You’re taking others with you next time,” Lexi insisted.

“I will,” Del promised.

“Hmm,” Lexi muttered though she didn’t sound appeased.
