I’ll have to settle for jerking off to the thought of last weekend. For two people who are extremely attracted to each other,we haven’t had nearly enough sex. I’m going to have to rectify the situation soon.

Giving Emma one last look, I notice she has her back to me while Kamila helps her wipe down a large cooking station that has sauce splattered all over it. Her body tenses, clearly feeling my eyes on her. She always does, just as I can feel hers on me.

She peeks over her shoulder and smiles briefly, a slight blush rising on her beautiful face.

Running a hand through my hair, I move to step outside when someone stops me.

“Hey, Grayson. I wanted to talk to you about something important.”

Jake waits for my answer, and I see Emma looking at us from the corner of my eye.

Casually, I wave my arm toward the door. “Of course.”

My fists clench in my pockets, waiting to see what Emma’s best friend is going to tell me.

Jake faces me once we’re near the serving station, farther from the kitchen, takes out a piece of paper from his jeans pocket, and hands it to me. I hesitate before gently taking it.

There in my palm lies a check for seven thousand dollars. My jaw drops for a second.

I look up at him, and his body is tense, face straight, guarded, and suspicious.

He knows something.

“I can’t take this, it’s too much.” I try handing it back to him. It’d be inappropriate to accept that amount from one of Emma’s friends.

He laughs humorlessly and takes a step back. “Consider it my father’s donation to the place. It’s pocket change to him, but it’s all I’m allowed to give. After all, he’s the one with the money.”

Nodding, I tuck the check into my pocket. “Thank you, Jake. That money means a lot to everyone here.”

He nods and hums his agreement.Fuck, I don’t like the way he’s looking at me.

Jake opens his mouth when Kamila steps out of the kitchen. “Hey, Jake. They need some extra muscle back there to pick up some boxes.”

Saved by Emma’s other best friend. Thank fuck.

“Be right there,” he says sharply.

“They need you now, Jacob.” She taps her foot, waiting for him to go in.

He throws his arms down. “Fine.”

Jake disappears through the doors, and I lean on the serving station with my head down.

He knows about Emma and me. I’m pretty sure Levi suspects it, too. Emma is private and wouldn’t have told them, but they hang out all the fucking time. They’re her family, and they know her. Of course, they’ll notice a shift in her demeanor.

“So, Professor.”

My head snaps up to find Kamila standing in front of me. She’s wearing a narrowed gaze and is leaning against the wall opposite me.

Fuck. Shit. Goddammit.

“Yes, Kamila?”

Her mouth widens into a grin. “What are your intentions with my best friend?”

I cough and cross my arms. “Intentions? I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”

She rolls her eyes. “Cut the bullshit. Emma hasn’t said anything, but I can tell what’s going on just by being in the same room with you two. Why do you think all of us came today?”
