“You have help, don’t you?Call them in the morning and tell them you’ll be late.”
“It’s tempting.”Especially with Letty curled up against him, warm and naked.
Letty raised her head and looked at him with a sultry smile.“I bet I can convince you to stay.”
“I bet you can too.Easily.”He kissed her, meaning to make it a light peck on the lips.That’s not what happened.Their lips clung together, his tongue delved into her mouth.She answered with her tongue and the next thing he knew, she was on top of him and his hands were on her breasts.He groaned.“Maybe I could stay a little longer.”
“Sounds like a plan.”She reached over and opened her bedside table drawer, coming up with condoms.“I bought these a couple of days ago.Just in case.”She opened one and rolled it down over his aching shaft.Then she climbed on top of him and rode him until they both exploded, one after the other.
Letty lay on top of him, limp and, he hoped, satisfied.“It’s really too bad I can’t stay with you at the ranch.”
“Not unless you want Jasper to have an absolute shit fit.”
She laughed and propped her head up on her arm.“He really would.I can just imagine the look he’d give me when he saw me again.But doesn’t it bother him when you don’t come home and he knows you’re with a woman?”
“We avoid the subject.And I make sure someone is around to help him in the morning.Which I didn’t do this time since I didn’t know this was going to happen.”He thought about it and added, “I haven’t been with anyone in months, so it hasn’t come up recently.”
“Why?”
“Why haven’t I been with anyone in a long time?”She nodded.“I was waiting for you.”
The look of alarm that washed over her face wasn’t encouraging.Too soon, damn it.
She rolled off of him and sat up, dragging the sheet over herself.“Riley, you know we decided we were just having fun.Don’t make this into something it’s not.”
He didn’t answer but got out of bed and went to the bathroom to clean up.Afterward, he leaned against the sink and looked at himself in the mirror.“Idiot.You knew better but you couldn’t keep your damn mouth shut.”
“Riley?Are you talking to me?Because if you are I didn’t understand it.”
Fortunately.“No, I was muttering to myself.”
He left the bathroom and began putting on his clothes.Letty, still in bed but with the covers pulled up said, “Are you mad?”
In the midst of buttoning and zipping his jeans, he looked at her.“No.Why would you think that?”
“Because you got up without saying a word and stomped out of the room.”
He grabbed his T-shirt and pulled it over his head, then picked up his flannel shirt and shrugged it on.“Okay, I might have been a little annoyed.We need to get something straight.”
“Like what?”
“You can’t flip out whenever I say something you think means more than it does.”
“Like when you said you were waiting for me.”
“Exactly.It didn’t mean anything.And if you’re going to overreact to everything I say or do we won’t have much fun.”
“So, you didn’t mean that the way it sounded?”
He sighed.“I said it because I didn’t want to go into great detail about why I hadn’t been with anyone in a while.You’re going to have to cut me some slack if you want this to work.I’m not going to weigh every word I say so I don’t freak you out.”
“I’m sorry.I overreacted.”
“Ya think?”
Naturally, that pissed her off.“Like you’ve never overreacted?How about the time you dragged me out of Grey’s after you ran off the man I was with?”
“Totally different situation.”He walked into the main room and picked up his coat.Letty came in a few minutes later wearing a fuzzy pink robe.
“Will I see you tomorrow?”
“Do you want to?”he asked.
“Yes.”
“I’ll try.I may not be able to get away.I’ll call you and let you know what’s going on.”
“Okay.Drive safe.”
He took a few steps, put his arms around her and yanked her to him.Then he kissed her, making sure he revved her up and left her wanting.Problem was, it did the same thing to him.
