You are in control.

You are not losing yourself over a man.

Cursing, I turned on the faucet, letting the cold water run over my fingers, hoping it would quell the fire within me.Hoping it would wash away the lingering sensation of him.

I splashed water on my cheeks and stared myself dead in the eyes.

“You’re fine.You’re in control.”

Lies.

I wasn’t in control—not when it came to him, not when one look from him could turn my thoughts to static. With one touch, I was putty in his hands. He knew just how to unravel every cord keeping my wits together.

And God did he unravel them.

A few minutes longer and I'd be coming right there at the table.

What the hell was I doing?

Taking a breath, I kept my gaze down as I washed my hands, focusing on the sensation.

The grounding.

Until the bathroom door opened.

The soft sound hit me like thunder and had me tensing under the running water. The last thing I needed was an audience to my internal meltdown.I didn't need one of Lori's little friends seeing me like this—or worse, bridezilla herself.I lifted my gaze slowly, fully intent on grabbing a hand towel and heading back out, when I froze.

Jaxon.

He was standing by the door, hands tucked in his pockets and his sleeves rolled up.Tattoos were never a turn on for me, but the slight of ink slipping underneath that white shirt was doing something dangerous to me.Not to mention the fire burning in his eyes. There was this heat buried beneath his eyes that had flames licking at my skin.

He didn’t say anything—he didn't need to.His eyes locked onto mine in the mirror, dark and hungry and completely unapologetic.Time held its breath for us, trapping us in that moment where nothing and no one else existed.

I moistened my lips as my heart began to slam against my ribs.It pounded so hard I could hear it in my ears.

He stepped forward.

Once.

Twice.

Each step unhurried.Certain.

Predatory.

I turned slightly, watching his every move, my fingers tightening against the edge of the counter.

“What are you doing?”I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

His eyes dragged across my figure—a slow sweep that added fuel to the fire—before meeting my gaze again.

“You left.”

I swallowed, watching him get closer.“I needed some air.”

“Air.”A faint smirk came across his lips.“I imagine that must be hard when you're seconds from coming.”

“Could you not be so…”
