Cue the stomach churning.

“Savannah.”

Jealousy flickered in his eyes like an emerald flame, bright and impossible to miss, as they zeroed in on my arms around Savannah’s waist. The churning in my stomach was now a stifling reminder that while the word ‘pretend’ didn't exist for me anymore, Chase was where Savannah’s loyalties lay.The thought had my jaw clenching.

He didn't deserve her.

And when his gaze dragged up her body, thick with open contempt, I half-considered introducing his face to the pristine marble floors just to prove it.How dare he look at her as if she was the one who committed the crime here?

Then the asshole had the nerve to look right at me.Did I just tighten my arms and smirk at him?Oh yes, I did.Couldn't help myself, really.

It sparked something inside him, and I could see him slipping behind that cool façade.

“You must be the ex,” I started, eyeing him up and down.“I'd say it's a pleasure, but you wouldn't exactly know what the word means, would you?”

Fire and brimstone lit in his eyes, and his fingers curled into fists.

“Watch what you say to me.You can barely afford to breathe the same air as me.”

“You mean the air daddy's little fortune bought you?”

He sneered, taking a step forward, andoh I wish he would.Benji had been so busy that we hadn't had a match in weeks.

“What do you want, Chase?”Savannah’s words made him tear his gaze away from mine.

“To talk to you—privately,”he added, shooting me a glare.

“We have nothing to talk about.”

“Savannah, come on.We need to talk about this.”

“No,” she said, her voice sharp as glass.“You lost the right to say that when you decided to humiliate me, and even worse, my grandma.”

The air shifted.

Chase blinked.“What are you talking about?”

“Her rent,” Savannah continued, her composure terrifying in its steadiness.“The building you insisted on paying for.Thegenerousarrangement.You stopped the payments, didn't you?”

There was a flicker of recognition.

Asshole wasn't expecting that, was he?

“You think I don’t know you?”she pressed.“You think I don’t see how calculated that was?Leave her in the dust just to have me crawling back to you for help? You know I can't afford that place.”

His expression hardened.“We're not together.I don’t owe you anything.”

“No,” she agreed softly.“You don’t.”

Her chin lifted.

“But you don’t get to sabotage my family because your ego can’t handle the fact that I broke up with you afteryouslept with my cousin.”

The silence around us thickened.

Conversations nearby had started to die down.

People were watching.
