She dropped her hands and the two of them stared at each other before a knock sounded on the door. Lily looked down at her phone.

“That must be the car.”

Ethan looked at her in confusion. “Car?”

She motioned between them. “I didn’t want you to have to drive me back after the torture I put you through.”

“You’re leaving?”

“Um… should I not?”

She really didn’t know what to do. She hadn’t expected him to want her to stay after everything. Their camping trip ended quickly, and not for a good reason.

“I just figured we would hang out. Maybe watch a movie since we both don’t have plans tonight.”

“Oh.” She looked down at herself. “My clothes are kind of a mess. And I don’t have anymore lounge clothes. Didn’t plan on messing them up immediately.”

The knock on the door sounded again. “Ethan, did you need a ride?”

Lily raised an eyebrow and looked at Ethan. “Um. Why does he think it’s you needing a ride when it’s my name on the app? And how did he know this is your house?”

Ethan chuckled and moved toward the door to open it. “The town basically has one driver for all the apps. His name is Larry, and everyone knows him. It’s a small town.”

He pulled the door open, and a tall man stood on the other side. “Hey, son. Whoa. What happened to your face?”

“Just a camping incident. I’m sorry you drove over here, Larry, but Lily won’t be needing a ride tonight.”

Larry’s eyes moved over to where Lily stood across the room. She looked at him and then at Ethan. She couldn’t read the look on Ethan’s face, but she didn’t want to leave. And he already asked her to stay.

She took a step forward. “I’m sorry, Larry. I’ll pay for the inconvenience.”

Larry waved a hand in the air. “Nonsense. It’s not like it’s out of the way. I was just dropping someone off down the street, anyway. I’ll get out of your hair. You two have a wonderful night.”

“You too. Thanks,” Ethan said before closing the door. He looked back at Lily. “Let me run you to the resort to get whatever you need for the night, and then you can come back here and we’ll watch a movie. How does that sound?”

Her eyes searched his. It did sound amazing, and when else would she get the opportunity to hang out with a man she really enjoyed? It had been a long time since she had really wanted to spend time with one. And soon she’d be going back home to Texas, so she should take the opportunity while she had it.

“Okay. Let’s go.”

Ethan drove them to the resort, and they both stepped out of the truck. It was nearing 8 p.m., but there were still a lot of people moving about, walking between the main part of town and the resort.

He helped her with her bag and followed her to the elevator. They rode up to her room in silence, and once they stepped off on the second floor, she turned toward him.

“Do you mind if I take a quick shower? I’m still cold to the bone.”

“No, of course not. I’m going to run down to the restaurant and grab us some dessert for later since ours didn’t exactly go as planned.”

She looked at him guiltily, and he chuckled.

“It’s not a big deal. And honestly, I think you’ll enjoy this dessert more. I’ll meet you in the lobby in fifteen minutes?”

“Sounds good.”
