“It’s all right. It’s better to be safe than sorry,” Lonnie said.
She instantly liked the guy, and that alone had all the red flags being thrown. She couldn’t fall for someone. Not after everything. No way could she trust anyone. She took a step back and gave a small wave.
“It was nice to meet you both. Have a good night.”
Then she turned and hurried away. Only when she got to her car did she relax slightly. Alexis took a few deep breaths before starting her car and pulling out of the parking lot. Cass and Lonnie stood at the edge of the lot and only turned to keep walking once she had pulled out.
She didn’t know if she was imagining it or if it was pure coincidence, but it almost seemed like they were waiting for her to get to her car safely.
Alexis drove the short distance back to her apartment and went inside. After locking all the deadbolts, only then did she feel safe.
