“Wow,” I breathe. “Thank you!”
She gives me the platter, the menus, and a wink. “Just call down whenever you’re ready.” She points to an ornate, ancient pearl and metal phone on the nightstand. Just like all the other furniture, it seems to have been taken straight from a castle, complete with carved legs.
“We will. Thank you again.”
As soon as the door is closed, Wizard heaves himself off the bed. He takes the platter from me with one handand tosses the menus onto an upholstered wingback chair with the other. He grabs the hem of my jacket and tugs me into him, kissing me hungrily.
“You were right about waiting,” he sighs dramatically. “This looks delicious.” He hasn’t looked at the platter once.
I pluck a strawberry and bring it to his mouth.
“Mm,” he sighs, his eyes locked with mine as he chews. “They’re tart. Juicy. Sweet. Perfect.” I feed him another, but this time, he only bites half. Pink, sticky juice runs down my fingers, over the heel of my hand.
He brings it to his mouth and licks away the sticky drops. His tongue swirls against my wrist and then he licks my palm. He was just kissing me, and we’ve probably spent a few hours total making out at this point, but his tongue feels different against my hand. It’s sensual in a way that sends heat arrowing straight between my legs.
When he takes his next bite, his teeth scrape against my fingers and his tongue.
“That one is much better than the first.” The words rumble up, hoarse and gravelly.
I’m tempted to strip down, take the whole tray, and smush it against my chest. I can just imagine him licking off juice and chocolate and sweet pastry crumbs. It’s sexy, in a weird way.
This isn’t about me, though. This whole night is for him. I didn’t book us a night away so that we could have sex. That’s not what I’m expecting tonight. If Wizard wants that, it’s fine. I want this night to be about his pleasure. About exploring and makinghim feel good. About more truths and comfort between us. I don’t know if anyone has ever made a grand gesture for him, and I wanted to.
It’s amazing, how in just a few short days, the way I see the world has changed. Mostly, it’s because of him. Everything seems so much more clear. Even the hard things seem more beautiful with Wizard by my side. He’s opened my mind and my heart. With him, I’m starting to realize that what I thought wasn’t possible might not be so difficult to achieve at all. I used to think things like partnership, love, and forever were words reserved for movies, books, and other fairytales. In real life, I’d never seen an example of love that actually worked.
It still blows my mind that he choseme.
That’swhat this night is about. It’s just for him, as the best man I know. A good man who deserves to be spoiled, seen, heard, and loved in every way I’m capable of doing.
I feed him another strawberry, then point at the bed before I set the tray down. “I have a surprise for you, but you’ll have to strip down to your boxers and get on the bed. Ass up, please.”
His eyes practically cross and his cheeks get adorably pink. “Ass up, hmm?”
“I mean… not like that.”
He unzips his leather jacket without hesitation and throws it onto one of the chairs in the corner. His t-shirt follows. My throat goes bone dry as I take in his body.
“Face down, you say?”
I wink to cover how flustered I am just seeing him half naked. My body is a thousand degrees. It only gets hotter in here when he toes off his boots and undoes his jeans. He makes getting out of them look like an artform when it should be awkward. They join his other clothes on the chair.
He walks over to the bed and dives onto it. The whole thing groans, even though it looks solid enough to withstand a bomb blast.
“Shit!” Wizard grabs a pillow and props it up under his chest. He folds his arms underneath of it, hugging it to him. “I shouldn’t have done that. I could have broken this bed, and god knows how much it cost. It’s probably antique.”
“That’s likely the problem.”
“I thought that old things were built to last.”
“They are, but they’re also… old.”
He laughs, sounding more relaxed than I’ve ever heard. He drags in a deep breath. “I like the rose petals. They smell nice.”
“That’s good. If you didn’t, that would have sucked. The whole bed happens to be covered.”
“Yes, very romantic, for our not honeymoon.”
I open my backpack and fish around to the bottom while my stomach does ten flips and my heart swan dives in my chest, landing far harder than Wizard did.
