Chapter Ten

The knock on her frontdoor came a little after 6:00.

Clover jumped up and actually squealed as she ran to the door. She pulled it open so hard, it bounced off the wall.

“You’re here!”she cried.“Juni, he’s here!”

“Hello, little miss,” he greeted with a smile.“I come bearing food.”

On his shoulder was a black duffle bag and he held two flat boxes in his hand and a white paper bag.

“Let him in, Clover,” Juni gently admonished. However, her grin kind of spoiled the stern effect.

Clover jumped back to allow him to enter and then dogged his footsteps to the small kitchen table. He left the duffle bag by the door before heading to the table and placing the boxes down.

“I had my bar chef make these,” he said.“One is plain cheese, one is pepperoni.”

“I love both!”Clover said.

He smiled down at her, and something hit Juni in the heart, and gratitude filled her.Her sister was acting like a little girl should, hopping around as she waited impatiently for a plate.

“Sit down,” she said gently to Clover, and her sister obeyed immediately with eyes happily shining.

“And for dessert, I hope you like chocolate,” he said, giving them both pointed looks. He lifted the bag he held in his other hand.“Because I have three words for you.Chocolate.Lava.Cakes.”

Juni grimaced and rubbed an ear when Clover let out a high-pitched shriek of joy.
