As I think backon what happened that night in the alley, it reminds me of why I don't fuck with certain people. If there's someone who's causing harm to others, then they have to go. That very night transformed me into someone I didn't know could even exist. I became a monster in disguise that was easy to hide from everyone else around me.
Who would think one of the top detectives in the town would also be a serial killer? I know I wouldn’t. I keep that side to myself because I don’t want people to out me, or try to turn me in for my crimes. After all, I’m only killing those who deserve it. Who’s going to care if there’s one less rapist or abuser on the street? I’m sure nobody would be missing out on them.
I make it my duty to ensure the safety of those in my town, and I have yet to get caught for my crimes. This whole detective thing allows me to have the upper hand and know ways to avoid being caught. There are so many different skills and techniques that I've learned to ensure people don't tie the murders back to me in town. I will say it's rare that a body is found recently, since I've perfected my craft of getting rid of bodies.
All I want to do is ensure that the town is safe and those who I encounter will also be safe too. I really hope one day when I settle down with the woman of my dreams, she can understand the dark side of me. It doesn't come out right away, but I don't want to hide all the time. I want my partner to support me and engage in preventing harmful people from hurting others. I hope one day I can find that person.
CHAPTER 2
RAVEN
Tonight is supposed to be my night. One where I spend it drinking with my friends, dressed in stupid Halloween costumes, as we party at my family's campground. But no, that's not exactly what's happening.
I'm stuck sipping a hard cider with my eyes locked onto my ex-girlfriend, as she grinds onto the town's number one slime ball, Dan, next to the bonfire on the beach. Her stupid devil wings flapping up and down with each little movement she makes.
I try not to miss her as I press the bottle back to my lips. But the music cuts out for a second, drawing all attention to the dude in a scream mask, who’s messing with the Bluetooth speaker.
My red hair blows in the wind, sending a chill down my spine, making me wish I wore something warmer. This skimpy black lace dress hardly covers my ass and tits. I knew better than to dress like this, but I wanted to show Molly what she’s missing. But jokes on me, she hasn't so much as looked in my direction since she arrived an hour ago.
My cider empties in record time, causing me to jump down from the retaining wall I have been perched on. Marching over to the giant metal barrel, all the drinks are being stored on ice. I hope to find the kind I’ve been drinking all night.
“Hey, spooky lady.” Molly’s voice sneaks up behind, followed by her fruity perfume.
I don't respond right away, acting like I didn't hear her as I fish for my drink in the ice. She wanders to the other side of the metal bin, putting herself right in my line of sight.
“Raven, why are you ignoring me?”
I can't help but chuckle.
“You'd rather be dancing with Dan at my birthday party than with me.”
Her cheeks flush red, turning them the same color as her slutty little outfit. She shifts on her feet, clearly unsure how to respond.
“He’s a dirtbag, Molly. He tries to get me to fuck him anytime he knows I'm back in town from college. He doesn't give a fuck about me or you. Never has, and never will. Do you need a fuck that bad?”
I turn on my heels and march off down the beach with my hard cider in my hand. I keep my eyes on the water as it comes in, kisses the sand, then goes back out. Her shuffled foot steps follow behind me, without so much as a word in response. I take this time as we march down the beach, away from the partygoers, to think through my next move.
When I finally get to my destination, at the cove of rocks that shrouds part of the beach, I turn to face her. The two of us, on our own little sliver of the beach, no one can see, standing in the bright full moonlight. She has her hands on her hips like she is ready to tell me off as she lets out a long huff. But to my utter surprise, she practically runs to me, stopping only inches away.
“Why must you be a total bitch sometimes? I was just waiting until we could get alone to do this.”
Her lips land on mine, my bottle pressed between us, as she frantically kisses me. I finally push her away, as my mind swims with conflicting feelings and emotions. I'm pissed at her, yet so fucking turned on. I have missed her soft lips and her delicate hands on my skin.
“Happy Birthday, baby. I hope it's the best one yet.”
She drops down to her knees in the sand, her bright blue eyes landing on mine. I worry that if I allow her to do this, it's going to open that door back up between us, which won't permanently close, no matter how hard I try.
“Please, Raven, I want to do this for you. It's been too long.”
She isn't wrong. I haven't had anyone get me off in months. I may be a virgin, but that doesn't mean I don't like to get my pussy eaten.
“Fine, but I don't want you with Dan.”
I stroke the top of her head, her blonde hair crunches under my hand from the hairspray she must’ve used.
Her eyes flutter, the red eyeshadow on her eyelids sparkles under the moonlight.
“Deal.”
