Lach’s cry is guttural, from deep within him. He stills, but his cock continues to pulse inside of me. I move, riding out his climax, and coaxing every drop from him.

He falls to his forearms on top of me, his weight pressing me firmly into the pile of leaves.

Our breaths mingle together and our eyes stayed locked together. It’s all changed now. This is more than an explosion of passion finally coming to a head.

This is pivotal—its fate.

Lachlan’s eyes gutter, the fire of lust burning away into embers of…

“Key,” he chokes.

I press a finger to his lips, silencing him. “I know,” I breathe.

He rolls off of me and onto his elbow as he smiles at me.

It’s breathtaking.

He picks leaves and twigs from my tangled hair, and I watch his every movement. Scared that if I take my eyes off him for a mere moment, he’ll disappear, and that this was all a dream.

“We need to get back,” he says, watching the sun as it climbs higher in the sky. “They’ll send out a search party and I dinna think I can handle having anyone see ye like this.” His eyes roamfreely over my naked body, darkening again as he brushes a finger to the scar on my side, courtesy of Julius. “I’ve never noticed these freckles before.” His fingers brush over the thirteen darkened dots on the inside of my bicep.

I look down at the freckles and roll onto my side, facing him. “They were much paler when we were kids. Since I’ve been here, they’ve gotten darker.” His thumb brushes over the one closest to my chest, a knuckle grazes my breast. “All the time spent outside.”

I reach a hand out, tracing the muscles that line his chest before dipping lower to his abs.

“I don’t think I will ever allow anyone to see you like this, ever.”

He grabs my hand right before I reach for his cock, his eyebrow arching.

“I’m gonna regret this, but ye ha’ said many times that time was against us. And I dinna want ye resenting me for that later.” He forces a swallow.

Duty, and something I can’t quite place war in his eyes.

I sigh, retracting my hand. He’s right. “Um, we didn’t use any protection…” I whisper, concern knitting my brows together.

“I’ll ask about a tonic when we get back to the ship,” he says with a hint of a smile.

I sit up, and the world around me blurs. Exhaustion grabs me tightly.

Lachlan chuckles as he stands, pulling his pants back on. “I’ll pull the crystal into the cave, and ye can wait here. Then we’ll head back to the ship.”

He tugs on his shirt and grabs my clothes before squatting down in front of me. Holding my shirt out, he says, “That was more incredible than I dreamed it would be.” His voice is still laced with arousal, causing goosebumps to rise in its wake.

“You dreamed of this?” I ask, raising my arms as he slips it over my head.

His smile turns heartbreakingly disastrous to my overwrought nerves. “More times than I can count.”

He hands me my pants before stepping into his boots. “I’ll be right back. Ye just wait here, my queen.” Exhaustion sets in even more and I watch him head towards the cave. With nothing more to do, than wait, I allow its warm embrace to cradle me as I curl onto my side on the soft forest floor and fall asleep with a satisfied smile on my face.

Ijerk awake. Panting as I peer around the wood-paneled room. We’re back on the ship. The hammock I’m in sways back and forth, giving me glimpses out of the small porthole to my left. The sea glitters silver in the dimming light as if evening is upon us. The scent of pine washes through me as I inhale deeply and close my eyes.

Flashes of Lachlan’s naked skin against mine have me smiling broadly to myself. I can’t believe we did that. And it was even more incredible than I thought it would be. A pleasant soreness twinges between my legs as I stretch. But the present comes crashing back down.

How long was I out?

And why am I alone?

I don’t remember going back to the cave and I definitely don’t remember dragging the crystal into said cave. The last thing I remember is the rich timber of Lachlan’s laugh andfloating. Soft voices sound over the creaking hammock, and I strain my ears to listen.
