“I think that was a tad more than making out. Can you stand?” He holds out a hand to help me.
“Maybe.” Hey, it answers both questions.
We both snicker as I stumble to my feet, and he smothers the laugh with his lips. Being ever the gentleman that he is, he stoops and helps me get my wobbly legs into the jeans, pulling them up my legs for me. He’s too sweet. I set to work fastening them as he turns on his phone’s flashlight to assess that nothing is left behind and all is back in place.
“I think we’re good,” he whispers in relief.
“I know you’re good,” I toss back wickedly.
“You keep stroking my ego. I won’t tell you to stop.”
“So humble.”
We both snort.
“We both know you love my cock.”
“Yes, I do love it.”
“Damn, I love hearing you say it.”
Jaxon grabs me by the waist and pulls me close, tucking my hair behind my ear, his playfulness all gone when he tenderly brushes his lips against the pulse throbbing in my neck.
“What I would give to have you at home right now. You turn me inside out. There’s so much I want to say and do.”
I shiver, knowing that his dark whispers mean more than he’s saying, more than I’m ready to voice aloud.
He pulls back, his moonlit face looking me over. The moment feels even more intimate than what we just did. Raw. The conversations I had tonight weigh heavily on my mind. I think I could love this man. Looking up at him now, I can see what everyone else can. This man does love me. It’s undeniable. My eyes sting with unshed emotion, and his bounce back and forth between mine, trying to gauge what’s going on.
“Talk to me,” he whispers.
“I can’t. It’s too much right now.”
“Okay.” He sucks in a breath, pressing a kiss to my forehead. Damn, he’s so patient with me. “Let’s get you to bed.”
We walk back into the mostly dark and quiet house, except for the soft sound of the TV on in the living room and a side table lamp glowing. He switches it all off and follows me up the steps to my bedroom door. One of his strong arms leans over my head on the doorframe, his palm pushing me against it as he dips down to kiss me goodnight in the dark.
“Goodnight, Cupcake.”
“Goodnight, Jax.”
???
Jaxon
I shuffle out of the hallway bathroom in athletic shorts, eyeing Holly’s bedroom door as I close myself in the guest room. This is not where I want to be. Dragging my hands down my face, I realize just how close I was to spilling my guts outside. It was evident after our ‘make out session’ that she’s just as affected by what’s between us. She feels it; she’s just so damn scared to let go.
I open my eyes, feeling for the corner of the covers to pull back and crawl into bed. Not even five minutes into laying there, I hear my door jiggle. I didn’t lock it. A smirk tilts my lips up as I throw back the covers to hustle across the room and open it before the rattling wakes her parents downstairs. I open the door, but all I see is darkness. There’s not even a sliver of lamplight coming from beneath her door. I frown, then jump when something jets past my ankles. What the hell?
Tigger.
I close the door, turning and looking for the giant fluff of fur. Sure enough, the tank is standing in the center of my pulled back covers.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I whisper at the cat as he settles into a loaf. Tigger makes a little trilling noise that makes me chuff with amusement.
“Scoot over. At least I’ll have someone to snuggle tonight.” Upon further thinking, I slant my eyes at the cat as I pull up the covers around me. “So you know, I’m a light sleeper. If you so much as crack an eye thinking you’re going to smother me in my sleep, you’ve got another thing coming.”
Tigger begins purring, kneading his paws into the mattress like it’s dough. I settle in next to the monster cat, and he stands, stretching long legs while letting me get comfy as he continues to purr and knead. Stepping forward, he rubs against my face with the entire length of his chubby body, and Ipffftthe fuzz that rubs against my mouth and bat his tail away. He turns and bats at my hand before he does one more circle and lays his chunky head against my shoulder.
