“Shit, you saved me a couple thousand. You ain’t too bad after all,” Priest chuckled as he slapped hands with Ahk.

Eventually, everyone came over and congratulated us. My family became his, and his family became mine. Although we didn’t have a huge-ass wedding like everyone expected of me, we did put together one hell of a party.

Ahk and I rented out a beautiful rooftop and had a party planner deck it out for the reception. It was filled with white lights and my favorite ruby red roses.

“Mrs. Hendrix, your best friend about to make an ass of herself on the mic,” Ahk pointed to Taylor, who was grabbing the microphone from the DJ.

I had Ahk’s son, Saphir, who was now my son, with me on the dance floor vibing to the music. The minute I looked up, Taylor cued the DJ to cut the music.

“Who the hell let her have the mic?”

Ahk laughed. “You know Taylor. Everybody gotta hear her mouth.”

“If I can have everyone’s attention!” She waved her hand from the stage to have everyone draw their eyes to her. “I won’ttake up too much time, but I just wanna say congratulations to my best friend, my sister, my ace, for letting a real nigga take her out the game!”

She was a few drinks in and on cloud nine after seeing me get married. Her man, wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, Cinco, pinched the bridge of his nose while shaking his head. He loved her, so when she got to acting a fool, he just chilled in the cut until he had to snatch her ass up.

“Y’all know Jaz ain’t never ever been a bitch to be tied down, but Ahk… my nigga, you changed her! Y’all are a boss-ass couple, and I am so grateful to be a part of your journey! To my sister, I am so happy for you and proud that you got your shit together!” Taylor shouted into the mic in pure excitement.

Full of laughter, I made my way to the stage to snatch her ass off. “Tay, get your ass off the mic!” I snatched the mic from her and handed it back to the DJ. My girl meant well, and I could tell everyone knew it based off how they were all laughing.

“I’m sorry. I’m just so happy for you.”

“I know, Tay. Cinco, come get this girl.”

Cinco grabbed Taylor off the stage and walked her down. I had done enough thank you speeches for the day, so I told the DJ to cue the music so the party could continue.

I made my way back over to my husband, who was chopping it up with J’Ru, Kaymen and Priest.

“This nigga married now. Welcome to the club.” Kaymen dapped Ahk up.

“You been in this marriage shit longer than all us. What’s the secret?” Ahk asked him as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.

Kaymen let out a deep sigh as he ran his fingers through his beard. “Man, just listen to your wife and let her spend whatever she wanna spend.” With a smirk on his face, he glanced towardthe dance floor where Jadey and Britain were gently rubbing bellies with one another.

The best friends were pregnant together, Jadey just a few months shy of being induced to have twins, a boy and a girl. Seeing them waddle around together was the cutest shit ever. Had me thinking maybe in like ten years I could pop one out for my husband, but for now, we were good with our little family.

“Yeah, you heard him. You better listen to me.” I reached up and gently tugged on Ahk’s goatee.

“We know who running things ‘round here,” he whispered in my ear before nestling his head into the crook of my neck and kissing me gently.

My man was so touchy, and he didn’t give a fuck who was around. At first, it took me a while to adjust. I wasn’t used to soft loving all the time. I didn’t grow up with affection and love aside from Priest, and most of the time, we were just dapping each other up after making it through all the bullshit life handed to us. With Ahk, I was always getting kissed and snuggled, and his hands were always all over me. I loved that shit. He wasn’t afraid of showing everybody that I was his lady.

“I don’t need to be seeing this shit.” Priest smacked his lips.

J’Ru screwed his face up in disgust as well. “Me either, son.” In their eyes, I would always be their baby sister, so they were having a hard time with me being wifed up and my man being all over me.

I laughed before grabbing Ahk’s face and kissing his lips. That was enough to have Priest and J’Ru leave the table and have Kaymen laughing.

The night ended, and everyone wished us well as we drove off in Ahk’s Corvette that had “Just Married” plastered on the bumper. For the night, Saphir went home with Priest and Britain to have a sleepover with Genesis.

From the passenger seat, I gazed at my handsome-ass husband while thanking God for dropping him in my life. “I really got you to marry my crazy ass.”

He gripped my thigh with one hand as he kept the other on the wheel while zipping through the city streets. The wind was hitting us just right, and the world felt like it was in our hands.

“Hell yeah,Lovey. Couldn’t miss out on making you Mrs. Hendrix.”

Lovey was what he called me. The sweetest shit ever.
