Her arms wrapped around me, holding me close as we both shivered with the aftershocks of our orgasms. I could feel her heart beating wildly in her chest, matching the rhythm of my own.

We lay there for a moment, our breaths ragged, our bodies entwined. I pressed a soft kiss to her neck, feeling her pulse jump beneath my lips.

Alana sighed, her body relaxing beneath mine as she tilted her head to give me better access.

Her fingers lazily traced patterns on my back, her touch gentle and soothing.

I could feel her breathing slowing down, her body melting into the cushions beneath us.

I propped myself up on my elbows, looking down at her.

“You okay?” I asked, brushing a stand of hair away from her face.

She looked so beautiful, even now. Even when she was trying to catch her breath, beads of sweat on her body, her face flushed slightly pink.

Alana was killing me.

Her eyes fluttered open, a soft smile tugging at her lips. “More than okay.” She reached up, cupping my face in her hands, her thumbs brushing gently against my cheekbones. “Eden?”

“Hm?”

She kept quiet for a beat or two, just looking at me, smiling softly. “Never mind.”

“Tell me.”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?” My eyebrows drew together. What the hell was she going to say that she thought she couldn’t?

Alana could tell me quite literally anything. She committed a crime? Cool, I was her alibi. No questions asked.

“It’s stupid,” she said. “I don’t want to ruin the moment.”

I rolled off her gently, disposing of the condom quickly before pulling her up to sit and back into my arms. “You couldn’t ruin this moment if you tried.”

Alana hesitated. “It’s just…”

“Just what?”

She sighed, shaking her head.

What was going on?

“It’s just… this feels different,” she admitted. “You and me. This thing between us, whatever it is.”

Alana’s words hung in the air, my heart thrumming so heavily inside my body that I wasn’t sure it was going to stay inside much longer.

What she said was both absolutely terrifying and relieving at the same time.

But I couldn’t get my hopes up.

Still, I tightened my arms around her, pulling her closer if that even possible. “Different how?”

Alana took a deep breath, her fingers tracing patterns on my arm. “I don’t know.”

“I think you do.”

She shook her head. “It’s stupid. Just forget it.”
