Myssa
Afew hours later, exhausted after the last call, I decide I’m done for the night. Grabbing my backpack from the locker, I make my way to the bathroom to get changed and then head to the bar. After I set my backpack down against the bar and hop on a stool, Vix hands me a water, and as the last of the stragglers walk out, the music changes to a playlist, and the house lights come on, showing more detail in the architecture surrounding us and emphasizing the Victorian feel of the walls.
“I’m almost done. Give me fifteen minutes.” she says.
“No worries. I have nowhere to go. Knox coming, too?” I ask.
“Yeah, I think so. He should be up here soon.” She restocks the bar and wipes down the counter.
“You guys work everything out?” I ask hesitantly
She looks at me quizzically.
“You seemed mad at him earlier?”
“Oh yeah, I suppose, you know Knox. Cockblocker at its finest. A vendor came in earlier today with a delivery and was talking to me. He was cute and eye-candy worthy, so you know me, I flirted. Of course, that’s when Knox came in behind me. Poor guy turned white and stuttered that he had to go, literallycutting me off in mid-sentence. As he started to walk to the door, I turned to find Knox glaring at him.
“What did you say?” I asked.
“Nothing, I was too pissed off at him, so I grabbed a case of plastic cups, and got in the elevator. As the doors started closing, I flicked him off.” She shrugs.
I can’t help but laugh.
“You know…” but I don’t even get to finish as she puts her hand up at me.
“Save it. Your conspiracy theories are not warranted here.”
“Fine, I’ll table it…for now.”
“So, you two are good now, though?”
“You know we are. I can’t stay mad at him, but fuck if it’s not like having your very own pitbull watching your ever move here. I know he has the other guys watching me, too. Eddie told me one time while we were on a break downstairs.”
“Eddie?” I ask.
“Yeah, Eddie is security, too. He is the one always out in the front.”
I nod.
“Let me finish up here and we can head out.” She walks over to the register.
But just as she turns around, she sees Knox talking to some blonde, walking with his hand on her lower back as he guides her to the elevator. The woman suddenly laughs at something Knox says as she playfully slaps his chest. Vix stands there for a minute, stunned, and I can tell by her posture she’s not happy. I almost think she’s going to jump over the bar. Knox walks into the elevator with the blonde, and the doors close.
“That motherfucker,” Vix growls.
Playing devil’s advocate, I decide to throw a scenario out that may calm her down a bit.
“Vix, you know as well as I do that could have been nothing more him ushering a girl drunk down to the doors and making sure she gets into an Uber. After all, that’s his job.”
She glares at me, and I know that look.
I hold my hands up in surrender and take my phone out to keep my self occupied as she finishes up.
