She gulps. “Of course.” Her gaze shifts toward the suite windows. “I have to go.”
“Yeah. Sure. Your boy is dying in there. Don’t torture the guy this much. Have mercy. I mean he wrote a song for you.” That son of a bitch.
She laughs, already on her way inside. “Yeah, I shouldn’t be torturing him like that. See you around, Mike. I’m really gonna miss you.”
14. MAGGIE
Viktor holds me in place with his tormented eyes. “So… did you tell him?”
I shake my head.
“Why not?”
My shoulder lifts in resignation. “I have no place in his life. No girl does.”
“What does that even mean?”
“It means we’re both similar when it comes to love. We avoid it at all cost. Mike hasn’t had a girlfriend in six years. He’s happy the way he is, making movies and fucking anything that moves.” A deep sigh escapes me. “I’m such an idiot.”
“Maggie—”
“Let’s get out of here, Vik.”
He nods and links arms with me. “But would you ever give me a chance?”
Now that I know Mike will never be mine, I look at Viktor with a different eye. What happens if I just open my heart and mind a little and make a change?
It’s probably the weed talking, but I genuinely think it’s time for me to think differently and allow myself some hope in love.
I smile. “Yes, Viktor. Why not?”
