I shrugged. “What?”

“You worry too much, sweetheart. Why don’t you leave—”

“Leave it all to you. Yeah, yeah.” I waved a dismissive hand as I spun to head into the shower. Tonight was the Valentine’s. I needed to get ready. The last thing I wanted was a fight.

Besides, he was right. I should leave it all to him. I should have stayed away from anything Night Skulls like I always did. Couldn’t keep my mouth shut for two more weeks? What was I thinking? Why did I have to ask about the new president? Now I was more worried and afraid for Dusty, and those upcoming couple of weeks wouldn’t be as easy as I thought they would be.

I started to the bathroom, but his hand on my waist stopped me in my tracks. I looked at him over my shoulder, both his arms folded around me from behind now.

“Everything you said is true,” he said. “Outside the MC, Rush can’t be considered…a good man. But inside, he’s one of the best.”

I sighed, my jaws tight.

“I know it’s hard for you to believe this, but we’re brothers, a family. We have a code, Cammie. Breaking it means nothing but a death sentence. Even if he hasulterior motives, he can’t act upon them.”

We. A constant reminder that Dusty was a Night Skull whether he wanted to be in that gang or not. “Beth turned her back on Roar and offed him. I don’t see her dead.”

“She would have been,” he said quickly. “If it weren’t for me...and Rush.”

“So you trust this guy enough to make him second in command?”

“It’s not just about trust. The Skulls listened to Rush. I needed him on my side if I wanted them to listen to me, too. And knowing he’d never hurt Mama was a plus at the time.”

I turned and nestled in his big arms. His logic and the safety of his embrace eased my concerns a bit. “I understand. And I’m probably overreacting about this whole thing. You obviously know what you’re doing.”

He kissed me on the forehead. “Thank you.”

His hug was warm and soothing, but I had to break it to get ready. I showered and dried my hair fast. When I got out of the bathroom, my jaw dropped low, and I was probably drooling.

Dusty was in a suit.

A dashing blue suit with a tight white shirt underneath. His hair smoothed to the back and hanged perfectly on his shoulders.

Holy smokes.

It wasn’t like he didn’t rock that biker, leathery look, but this was a whole new level of hotness I wasn’t prepared for.

“What?” He had his crooked smile on.

Like he needed that too.

I blinked, laughing. “I don’t think we’re going to make it to dinner.”

He chuckled, his thumb pointing to the bed. “Maybe when you see your new dress, you’ll change your mind.”

What new dress? I already had a red dress I intended to wear for tonight. I dragged my gaze from his mesmerizing figure and glanced over at the clothes laid out on the bed. A red satin dress spread across the brown flowered bedspread. A pair of red pumps. And a…jewelry box.

My jaw fell open again. “Oh my God, baby.”

He took my hand and printed a kiss on the palm. “Don’t just stand there. Go try everything on.”

I took off the bathrobe, already in my underwear, and slipped on the dress. The fabric felt amazing on my skin. It hugged my curves a little too tight and was a little shorter than anything I’d choose on my own, but it was sexy as hell. The sudden swell in Dusty’s dress pants confirmed it.

As I put on the pumps, he frowned all of a sudden, biting his lip. “I changed my mind. There’s no way I’m gonna let you go out like this.”

“Excuse me?”

“Look at you! You’re…” He ate me with his stare. “Fucking wow.”
