CHAPTER 26

Cameron

“What fucking offer? The only thing I wanted was my sister, and you murdered her.” Tears betrayed me.

“How about justice?” she asked.

Curious, I studied her expression. Is she saying what I think she’s saying?

“You’re not a killer, Cameron. You only want to avenge your sister. I get that,” she said quietly.

“What are you saying?”

“I’m saying payback is a bitch. Killing Dusty will burn us, yes, but it won’t get Annie back. It will only make a murderer out of you.” She approached my ear again. “There’s a better way to get your revenge. The right way.”

I tilted my head, looking at her in disbelief. “You’ll sell your man out to the police?”

She reached inside the back of her jeans and got out a gun. “Who said anything about the pigs?”

My heart thumped as I stared at the weapon in her hand. Would she do that? Kill her man? The father of her son? The leader of her gang? “How stupid do you think I am?” I raised my voice, and her eyes widened. “You expect me to believe that you’d ki—”

She pressed her palm on my mouth. “Quiet!” The panic in her eyes was real. “I’m trying to help you, you stupid fuck.” Her voice was lower than the steady steps coming from behind.

“What’s the bitch squeaking about now?” Roar grumbled.

“One word and you’re dead,” she mouthed and removed her hand, too certain I wouldn’t rat her out.

Why wouldn’t I? I could turn them on each other with one word and watch them fight. Who would win in the end? Would they both finish each other and spare the world their evil?

The idea alone was worth the risk. But there was some truth in what she said. The only reason I wouldn’t speak. I wasn’t a murderer. Or so I liked to believe.

“I asked you a question.” Roar’s face appeared before me. My blood simmered with all the fury and hatred I had for this piece of shit.

Beth didn’t speak. She just stared at me, unchanging, not even breathing.

I forced myself to look at Roar. “I was telling your ugly whore I wasn’t falling for any of your pathetic, intimidating games. You can’t kill me, so tell her to put the gun away.”

“Oh yeah?” He grabbed me by my vagina. “Maybe we won’t kill you just yet, but we’ll do worse. You need another reminder of what happens when you don’t do what I tell you to do?”

My skin broke into gooseflesh. I didn’t close my eyes or look away, though. However, I wished I could have said I was less appalled by his forced touch. “Maybe you’ll like my piss on your fucking hand this time?”

“The fuck?” He withdrew his hand and turned to Beth. “Where the hell does she get those disgusting ideas?”

“Who gives a shit?” She threw her hands in the air. “Just get her to talk!”

He glared at her. “Don’t ever talk to me like that again.”

“I’ll talk to you however I want. You and the scrawny, little bitch you took are the reason behind this shit. If anything happens to him, I—”

He backhanded her so hard she flew backwards. “I said never talk to me like that again.”

Her hand flew to her mouth. When she pulled it away, blood ran out of her nose and mouth. She was holding a tooth. Probably Roar’s full fist broke her nose, too.

Beth shot up, the gun no longer in her grip. I scanned the ground for it and located it a few paces from where she fell. She struggled to stand steadily. “Just get me my son back. Now.”

Roar clenched his teeth, grinding a curse. His fingers fished something from the inside pocket of his cut. A dagger with silver engravings of skulls and roses on the handle.

Startled, I held my breath, but my body wriggled. What was he going to do with that blade?
