Chapter Five
They walked out ofthe bedroom and down the stairs.
The rest of the group were standing in front of the main doorway.
Kelly and Char were off to the side, talking softly.
Comanche looked over at Rosie to find her looking back.“Your husband is going down right along with your grandmother and uncle.”
Rosie scoffed.“Ty Regis was not my husband, never was.We were never...married.”Her voice cracked with tears.“Grandmother set the wedding date out a year so it would be right after my eighteenth birthday. She couldn’t sign the papers as she had no guardianship over me.She didn’t need to prove guardianship when she gave Char away. She was already eighteen.I wasn’t.”
Char snapped her head up.“She didn’t even marry you off?She just allowed him to take you?”
Rosie nodded.“She knew she didn’t have the rights and without the paperwork, the marriage wouldn’t have been legal. She let him take me until I was eighteen. My birthday is six months away now and getting closer every day. It’s been a nightmare.A nightmare I didn’t think I would live through.”
Char growled and her hands clenched into fists.“That woman is going to learn a harsh lesson very soon. She can’t treat people like fucking merchandise. It isn’t right.”
Comanche shook his head.“Just hold up on revenge. You have no idea what Shay’s about to do to her and your uncle. She’ll learn that lesson the hard way and he won’t be polite about it either.”
“Come on, we have to get on the road before that fat ass toad wakes up and calls the police,” Kelly told them.
Chase nodded in agreement.“We have to get you two out of sight and somewhere safe.Where your family cannot get their hands on you.”
“Is there such a place?”Char sighed in frustration.
Comanche walked over to where she stood. He placed his hand on her shoulder and used his forefinger to tip her chin up.“Yes, there is a place just like that, it’s called Sabine Pass and it’s about a four-hour drive. But we need to get going so we can get there before the sun comes up.You with us?”
Char nodded.“Yeah, I’m with you.”She paused then looked over at Rosie.“Come on sis, let’s go.”
Rosie nodded.“I’m so in.I hate it here and I never want to see that dirty bitch again. No wonder Mom ran away from home. She knew exactly who her mother and brother were.”
Char nodded.“Yeah she did, she also told me to watch over you when we were both kids. And I will always do that, baby girl.”
Rosie nodded.“When Victor grabbed us and you left me behind I thought I’d never see you again.”
Char shook her head.“I know.I am so sorry I wasn’t there for you then. But I told you I’d find you again. That I would be back for you.I just ran out of time.”
Rosie shook her head.“No, Olivia moved up the timeline. She heard you tell me that you would come get me.She saw your eyes too.She knew and she couldn’t stand the idea that you would wreck her timeline. She had made this deal when I was fifteen but she had to wait until I was seventeen to hand me over to him.She knew what kind of man Ty was and she made this deal anyway. She deserves to burn in hell.”
Comanche guided them toward the front door.“She will fry one way or another, little girl.We got to go.I promised Shay he’d see you before the sun came up.”
Crusher carried Rosie all the way to the truck and sat her carefully on the seat next to her sister. He buckled her in then looked over at Char.“We’ll be in front and behind you. We’ll escort you to Kelly’s house, you’ll both be safe and cared for there.”
Char nodded then started the engine. She got in line with the bikes, then blended in with them until they got on the freeway. When spotted them, two ahead of her and two behind...for the first time she felt safe. She still had both bats under her seat.Glancing over at her sister, she saw her resting her head against the window glass.
Suddenly, Char felt everything might just be alright after all.
They made a pitstop for gas and drinks once.
Finally, the sun was just peeking over the eastern horizon when they drove into Sabine Pass.
Char felt so relieved as she was starting to feel exhausted. Her life the last few days had been tiring and fraught with worry about getting to her sister in time.Filled with anxiety and fear. But at least now she had her sister and Ty was left far behind.
