She followed Kelly’s bike to a quiet neighborhood and felt truly surprised when they came to a gated community. There had even been a man on watch when they drove through the gate.Char looked around at all the houses and one very big building sitting right in the middle of everything. She had to wonder just what this place was and why Kelly was living here.
She followed them to a side street and was right behind them.
Now, Kelly, Comanche and the others were all turning into one driveway.
As they did this, the front door opened and three men stepped out to watch them park their bikes. Then they swung their heads around as Char parked her truck behind the bikes.
Char studied the three men.Two of them looked almost the same, same frame, same face. The third man stood there with long grey streaked hair in a ponytail and a clean-shaven face. All three had their arms crossed over their chests with a stern look on their faces.
Kelly got off her bike then ran to one of the men and threw herself into his arms.He hugged her close and they spoke quietly for a few minutes.
Crusher came over to Rosie’s door and opened it carefully. He looked at Char and smiled.“We made it.The two of you will be safe and protected here.”
“What is this place?”Char asked him quietly.
Crusher smiled.“This is the Hell’s Fire Riders MC compound.Welcome to the family.”He scooped Rosie up and carried her toward the house.
Char was stunned.Kelly belonged to an MC?When did that happen? She should have known that though as she and the others rode motorcycles. But an MC?Wow.She reached for her door and opened it.
Comanche appeared at her side and he escorted her to the door.
Her fingers tightened around his arm as she stepped up onto the porch.
Comanche noticed but didn’t say a word.
Kelly turned and smiled at her best friend.“Char, this is my husband Shay and his twin brother Drew and that’s Pappy.I haven’t had a chance to tell Shay about you and Rosie yet, so please come inside.”She gripped her best friend’s hand and dragged her in through the double doors.
Char looked around the very large but wonderful house and began to feel like an outsider.“Oh Kelly, this is such a nice place.I don’t belong here.”She looked around the room then clasped her hands together nervously.
Kelly shook her head at her friend then moved her over to the sofa.“Let me tell you something, Char.”She looked around the room again and sighed hard.“I met Shay a couple of years ago after I helped someone get back to her home.I didn’t have a thing to call my own, not even a proper house I could call mine. All I had was a bike and a small band of friends. We shared everything with each other and we helped anyone who needed it.Mind you, not everything we did was particularly legal but we got by.After we dealt with my horrible family. This house? The Prez, Stone...Um, Pappy had built it for the MC.Then ours is a short way from here.I thought just like you, that I never deserved anything like this.”She patted Char’s hand.“But then over time I got used to it and so will you.I hope you can get comfortable here.I thought I’d lost you when you didn’t come home when we were kids.I never thought I’d ever see you and Rosie again either.”
Char squeezed her hand.“Well, I hoped that you would remember who I was and that you would help me get my sister out of the hell our grandmother set up for us.”She shook her head.“I knew I didn’t deserve your help but I’m so glad you answered my call.”
Kelly smiled.“I’m glad I did too.You are back in my life now and I hope you always will be in it.”
