“It was nice to see you enjoy yourself, Marley.” She laid on my chest and wrapped her finger around my chain as she spoke. “You can be so stiff sometimes, I bet it felt good to just let your guard down.”

“Hm.”

“And to think, you didn’t want me to come over. What would you have done without me?”

I smiled. “For one, my living room would still be clean.”

She sucked her teeth and waved me off. “You still on that?”

“Yes.” I caught her hand and pulled her closer. “And don’t think I forgot about the rest of them O’s.”

Her jaw dropped. “But I just gave you?—”

“I don’t wanna hear that shit, on your knees.”

I KNEW THIS WAS COMING

Rory.

“Y’all…don’t ever say I don’t do anything for you.”

I pushedthe office door open with my sore hip, coffee in one hand, bag in the other, talking before I even stepped fully inside. Chewy ran in ahead of me, finding the bed Marlon bought for him under my desk.

Hartland looked up from my desk where he’d been half-working, half-slouching. “I saw you got out the boss’ car this morning.”

“Yeah, he gave me a ride.” I set my bag down and shrugged out of my jacket. “And I am also the boss.”

He gave me a look, “If you gotta say it…”

I stuck out my tongue at him.

Lavender’s head lifted immediately from her laptop. “Wait, why are you riding with Mr. Sinclair anyway? Did the car service I set up not up to standards?”

Here she goes.

“No, no, it was fine. I stayed the night at his house, but I had to stop home for clothes.” I pointed between the two of them. “By the way. Don’t tell anyone what I said yesterday about me and Marlon.”

Hartland blinked. “What did you say?”

I looked at Hartland. “Oh yeah, you left early.”

“What are you even talking about? What did you say?” he repeated.

“They are sleeping together,” Lavender said plainly.

Hartland cocked a brow, “Well, that’s kinda obvious.”

“Is it?” Lavender chewed her pen top. “I was taken by surprise.”

“Really?” Hart scoffed. “Only thing surprising here is that Sinclair is engaging in this. That man has a permanent stick up the ass and takes everything too seriously. Casual sex does not feel like something he’d do.”

“I disagree,” Lavender added. “I’ve been his assistant for a while. The only relationships he engages in is casual. I don’t even think he ever had a girlfriend.”

“Really?” Hartland and I exclaimed.

“Really,” Lavender looked at me. “You’re the first woman he’s been with for longer than a week.”

Wow.
